I recently bought an M&P 45 compact. I am disappointed with the non existent trigger reset sound or feel. I am disappointed with the yellowed front sight which should be white like the rear sight. I am disappointed that I had to "work at" removing the grip "pin" to change the palm size. I am not new to the M&P line up as I have a 9 and 40 full size which I purchased when they were first on the scene and since have put apex parts in them. I am disappointed that S&W has done nothing to address these issues which I had with my first M&P's years ago. No wonder people are flocking to the XDs and such which have excellent fiber sights stock and excellent trigger reset. This be my last M&P.

You don't Think the fact that the XD-S is a 3.3" Single-Stack has anything to do with their choice as well?
This be my last M&P.
I'm sure you could find a few members here, willing to take it off your disappointed hands, so you can get an XD-S. :)

I've had an XDM with a yellowed front sight. It's just unlucky. My own opinion on the grip pin is that I'd rather it be stiff than loose. I don't change backstraps on the fly. I have an XDS45 and It may have a better reset but the pull is somewhere around 8 lbs after the recall. I'm considering putting a PRP spring kit in it just like the apex now in my new Shield. Also, the XDM series doesn't have the positive reset like the XDS and otherwise is more comparable to the M&P45c. You said you have other M&P with the apex kit so you knew what you were getting :) I think it's just a grass is always greener type of thing.

People are flocking to the XD? They are a VERY distant 3rd to Glock and S&W...In reality people are flocking to the M&P line.

Try cleaning the front sight. Rotating the grip removal pin will loosen it up...That is hardly a problem..

Seems like they should be improving their products rather than status quo. I did rotate the pin which caused the locking nib to disfigure on the sharp edge of the tapered surfaces it rides against.

White nail polish does wonders for renewing white dots on the cheap. And Apex makes a nifty gadget that gives you the trigger reset. Easy fixes if they are that big of a deal.

I don't think he meant to say XD-S, I took it as XD's in general. Maybe I'm wrong.

Since you already had a 9 and 40 you didn't know about the trigger reset?, a lot of people confuse personal preference with real issues. I stop liking Glock but doesn't mean they are not a great firearm just not for me, I highly suggest to do your homework before buying anything and handled them before buying and if possible test drive it (shoot it) and then make a decision.

That's funny, I just put a new 45c on layaway last week... I noticed one of the rear dots having a yellow tint. I have somewhere around 7-8 M&P's... never saw that before... but.. I don't care, it doesn't affect anything in my book.

I'm not sure about flocking, I'm still waiting on my xds from the recall they were not ready for...when it gets back it's into the safe it goes...love my 40c for backup/ccw

I've said this before, but I'll say it again; this is a low end gun. I'm surprised that people expect perfect triggers. What would be reasonable to complain about is reliability, bjt they don't seem to have reliability problems.

Trading one set of disappointments for another.

Or not, or not...

But likely so.

thanks for the reminder to rent anything I am thinking of buying at the range and trying it before I buy it...guess I just got lucky with my FS40...I didn't realize the grip pins were so hard to get out as I liked the feel of mine when I bought it and have never messed with it...now I will have to try to take it out...

I shot my new 45C this weekend and it's now my favorite M&P. It's not as snappy as my 40 Shield or 40C so I'm a lot more accurate with it. I have to agree the frame tool was a little difficult to remove. Had to use a screwdriver wrapped in duct tape to pry it out. However, I pushed it in out repeatedly to "wear" it in and now have no problems removing it.

The "frame tool" is really just the fastener for the replaceable grips. I don't think anyone that has owned an MP would use it for the take down lever.. if it was looser, people would be complaining about that. It should be tight!

I have read several posts about this supposed issue.

The M&P trigger reset sound, or lack thereof, is not a problem for me. Maybe I failed to read the paragraph in the manual of arms that indicate the trigger should make noise. Quite frankly, the only noise I care to hear is the "Earth-shattering KABOOM" (10 Internets for who said it!).

The feel changes over time and as an M&P owner and member of this forum for over 5 years, you should be aware of that. It's been said over and over - Several hundred rounds downrange smooths out the grit.

As to the overall "feel", if someone wants their Smith and Wesson to feel like a Glock, there are a couple of companies who would be thrilled to take your money.

Patience, Grasshopper. And range time. Lots of range time.
