Disturbing memo from SG Ammo

swsig, thank you. I have received ammo from many sources thru the years, but never heard of SGAmmo. When I buy a bulk amount, I generally buy at a gun show. Grizzly ammo was my last purchase.

Strange that no other disease has ever caused ammo factory workers to call in sick ever before. Now, a virus that tests positive in about 1/10 of 1% of people is expected to shut things down, just like that.

[/sarcasm]

As with the other "commodity" shortages stemming from COVID-19 panic buying, I hold the "main scream media" responsible for fanning and maintaining the panic. Nightly/Daily newscasts are devoted entirely to COVID-19, with a pause for the Weather forecast in between.

Panic buying of TP hasn't subsided yet after a month (or more) of people stocking up, why does that sense of urgency still prevail? No need to answer, the above explains it.

This particular pandemic features a virus that is estimated to be 3 to 4 TIMES as contagious as the Spanish Flu in 1918. BTW estimates for the death toll in that pandemic are estimated to be over 50 million worldwide and possibly as high as 100 million. While the current measures are a real burden the simple fact is that isolation is reducing the death toll of this disease.

You passed the i.q. test. Since this virus has to kill people, it would be best for society if it takes more of the selfish and ignorant than those who have been graciously sacrificing their pleasures and their income for the greater good, but that's not the case. In my county around 30% of those infected are college age or younger. They are also the ones milling about in groups, having pick-up basketball games and still having parties. But they are young and strong and none have died - just getting sick and passing it on to others, who actually are dying. But it's a low percentage, so why should they have to give up their pleasures?

The amount of new gun owners as a result of the virus panic is staggering.

They all need ammo.

Glad I snagged 10K rounds of .22s yesterday. It’s hardly anything and I’m embarrassed that I’ll only have about 11,000 on hand once they arrive.

Pathetic stash but by my calculations of me shooting 300 rounds per month which is about average, that will give me about 3 years of shooting. Hopefully that is enough time for the shortage to recover, or at least cool down a bit. That’s about how long it took the last time.

Might buy another case or two just to be ready.

I don't see a problem with having 3 years' worth around, especially if you expect a shortage. Toilet paper, I don't really get. But the people who always have 3 years' worth of toilet paper probably don't understand us and our ammo!

Wow am I glad I am a reloader

I am glad I am a reloader with all the ammo shortage now. I had already stocked up on primers, bullets, powder and brass before all this started happening. I have plenty of everything I need.

JJEH, how would anyone know if Buffalo Bore was price gouging? (I have always thought that their prices were already sky high. But then again, I handload any "boutique" rounds that I need.)

^ I buy Buffalo Bore( .45C+p) and the cost while high is acceptable because I don’t have to invest cash into reloading equipment for the few rounds I shoot yearly.

Funny. My Walmart has plenty of 22 on the shelf. Wonder when the panic is going to hit here?

.22 is the one caliber I’m still adding, although slim pickins, but I’m just topping off my stash at this point. Remember from last time the manufacturers wont be cranking out enough .22 until they catch up on everything else. It could be awhile maybe

I have bought scopes and other things from Natchez over the years.
A month ago I ordered some Speer Lawman .45 ACP from them at normal prices. Still hasn't shipped. I sent them a few e-mails and got a bunch of excuses. I'm starting to believe they never really had the ammo in stock when they took my money, and are just stalling until they get it in stock.

Last Saturday evening I ordered a case of buckshot from SG Ammo and it was at my door on Wednesday. Their prices have gone up considerably on what case items they list daily, but they come through.

Sportsman's Warehouse was wiped out a few weeks ago, but their shelves have been pretty full since then (even lots of 9mm), and prices are as low as they always have.

During my enforced in-home confinement I venture down to the loading room and crank out 50-100 rounds at a time, just to fight boredom. I’ve been loading a variety of bullets and charges in my 32 S&W Long stash, but am running out of places to store them, so now I have to shift gears and either load up a bunch of 38 MRWCs and/or SWCs or 327 Fed Mag (or maybe both if the Goobernator won’t set my people free for as long as he’s been threatening.) I’ve got boxes of swaged 148 gr 38 HBWCs, so I guess my old K-38 gets a big cupboard filling first.

Did I mention that I’m bored while the chief goober in charge keeps us locked up at home? He’s shut down the Indoor ranges but left the liquor stores open... I guess I could just get good and drunk and not worry about anything. Not a political statement, just an observation.

Manufacturers like Buffalo Bore and Weatherby (both sell consumer direct) still have ammo in stock. Suzie (Buffalo Bore) told me they are fully stocked and will never price gouge, and I can tell you it's true.

Weatherby and Buffalo got the gouging part down way before any shortages came about!

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it a bit ironic that I can buy a bag of grass and a bottle of booze but I can't get a haircut! They have all lost their minds!

Given the opportunity all dealers will run their prices up to make more money. After all they are in business to make money, aren't they?

I placed an order with Natchez last weekend, it is supposed to ship May 5. It was the only supplier of powder that had the two varieties that I wanted in stock. The next pension check should fund a few thousand primers, if I can locate them in a single supplier. Hate paying multiple hazmat fees.

SG Ammo is my go-to online source for ammo, and will continue to be so after things calm down.

Having said that, I wanted to get a few boxes of .380 ammo, not a case, so I checked ammoseek.com and found an online seller, Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore, that I'd never used before, but had what I wanted for what I consider a reasonable price. I ordered two 50-round boxes of American Eagle range ammo for $15/box and three 25-round boxes of XTP for $17/box last week, $12 shipping. Ordered on Tuesday, arrived on Friday, everything in good shape. I will probably use them again in the future if they have something I want and SG Ammo doesn't.

All I need now is a .380 pistol to shoot them. ;)
