First shots with an M&P 340 the other day...
I'm very comfortable with my 637's, 642's, 640, 60 and several older j-frames.
This was my first time with a Smith Scandium Alloy frame. In my pocket holster, I can't feel a difference between the M&P and my trusty 642. I was ready for a wallop of recoil that never came with a wide range of +P. It wasn't bad at all compared to the other j-snubs. I shot 'ok', but still got tighter groups from the others. I understand these are not target guns.
Mainly, I bought the 340 because of the big tritium sight picture and it's diminutive weight. It could be said that a sight wouldn't even be used in many SD situations, but I like to see something 'out front'.
The only problem with the 340, besides costing twice as much as my 642, is that it consistently hit about 6-8" high at 12.5 yards. Not much difference at 7 yards, but alarming since I almost hit the target arm at the range. Even in close quarters, that could mean the difference between a hit and miss.
Anyone else experience this on a 340?
Thanks.
