Ok, I know this isn't a good question to this crowd, but I need to think this through. They have a 9 mm shield at my LGS for 450.00. I can probably talk them down a bit but do I really need it? I was shooting my M&P FS today along side my old 4013. I am impressed with the M&P but the old 3rd gen did just as well. I also already have a 3913, which to me is the old grand dad of the shield.

I know some places have shields for a little less, but in my area you have to add about 50-75 dollars on top for shipping and transfer fees. Plus there is the whole 9 vs 40, but that's another story.

Thoughts? Talk me down boys!

The prices on them have come down quite a bit that I've been thinking about getting a 3rd one. Not really much help.:)

"More stuff!!!"
Isn't that your signature. Besides this is the wrong place to come to get discouraged from buying a S&W M&P. I love both mine.

Not needed. Have you shot one? You may not like the size. I for one don't like subcompact guns, and don't have an issue concealing mid or full sized guns.

Yes, I have shot a few Shields. I don't want one, but still kinda want one. LOL

My advice?

Read all input here, then make the decision based on your likes, comfort and lifestyle.

Me..I have one, my first true ccw pistol. Love it. I have a g19 that could also fill the bill in cooler weather, but it rarely gets cold enough here to wear more than two layers.

For CCW, you can't beat the 3913. I was at my LGS and fondled the Shields and although I got excited about maybe purchasing, in the end I really didn't want it. (Or need it) I do have a FS in 357/40 and find it easy to carry/conceal should the spirit hit me. Keep your ca$h and carry your 3913. Additionally, I really don't feel comfortable with a cocked and locked striker fired weapon at my side. Hence, the spirit to carry my FS MP has never moved me.

I bought two 9mm Shields back in May, one for my daughter and one for my daughter-in-law. The Shield is a neat gun, especially when it is given to you, LOL!! I have been carrying and shooting my daughter's Shield, and it is a fine gun. I also own a 3913, my second one. I sold a 908 to buy my first 3913, and found out I liked the 908 better as it was slimmer due to the single side safety. I later traded for a 3953, which is my favorite 9mm CCW that I own.

Simple answer, go shoot one. When you get a big ole grin on your face you'll have your answer. Should you not get the big ole grin on your face, again you'll have your answer.

Nope! You definitely don't NEED a Shield, but you definitely SHOULD have one! ;) You'll NEVER regret it. :D

I am only 1 gun away from having enough guns at any time. Yes you will like a Shield, I have a 4.25" FS 40 and a 5" 40L CORE to go with my 40 Shield. It will be the best $450 you will spend.

never confuse WANTS with NEEDS...two completely different things...you only want something if you can't afford it...buy it and be happy...:)

I'm not gonna try to talk you down at all. My wife asked the same question "Do you really need another gun?"

Anyway, maybe I can save you a few bucks. This is where I got mine.
SMITH AND WESSON MP9 SHIELD 9MM PISTOL @ Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore: No tax and free shipping. Ordered Monday night and had it in my hands Friday morning. And that was with Christmas in between. My transfer fee was only $25 tho.

If you are LEO, Active Military, Military Reserves, National Guard, or retired military(with credentials), you can use their IPO program and get it for even less. EMTs and Firefighters too.
