I carry three flashlights. Normally I wear Carhartt pants so I have one on either side. The theory is that if I'm on a ladder or have something in my hand at need a light I can reach it on either side. If I'm in an emergency and have a partner that doesn't have a light or has been separated from their light, I have a solution. I use only Streamlight products that use 123 batteries. I have literally kicked the snot out of my light with a steel toed boot and had it fly fifty feet through the air and come down on a steel deck with no effect to function. It rides in my right pocket to this day.
I use the Protac 2, HL, and 1. The bigger HLs generate a lot of heat and depending on humidity, 650 lumens is about all you need for illumination. Beyond that and you're losing distance to backsplash of the high powered light in fog. I find the lights that are straight profile without the big heads are the best for carrying every day. The Protac 1 is small enough to forget about in nice slacks but can be programmed to whatever need.
About the strobe: it is very good at dissuasion of approaching undesirables or indication of position and also at attracting attention of automobiles at night.
