About 25 years ago I bought a 5" M&P that dates to 1948-1951 I didn't notice until I got it home that all wasn't right! The gun is close to 90% except for two things.
First, someone had electro-penciled his Utah Driver License number under the cylinder window. Guess he didn't know what serial numbers are for! And second, it isn't all matching. I saw the DL#, but didn't notice the barrel didn't match!
The frame and cylinder match, SN C 150537 Barrel and stocks match, SN S941926
Would any of you who have a M&P from this period please check you guns and see if you have either a barrel that matches my frame, or the frame and cylinder that match my barrel? Or maybe your gun matches mine in both respects?
If anyone has a gun or barrel that matches either of these SNs It would be nice if we could get both guns back to where they should have been. What I do not understand is why the stocks were kept with the barrel instead of the ones that matched the frame! They were both square butt so that worked even with the different SN.
I don't know if I could request a letter for both SNs without paying for each number. It isn't worth $100, surely not $200, just for curiosity just to know what barrel length my gun originally had. I would probably find out it was originally a 2", and that would really be disappointing since I have always wanted a 2" from this time frame!
