Here's the hammerless that my grandfather carried for about 40 years.

Nice. Do you shoot it?

Good photo, too. Attractive grouping.

I have shot it, but I don't shoot it regularly. After my grandfather passed away my grandmother slept with it under her pillow for years. As the oldest grandson, she gave it to me a few months before she passed away about 5 years ago.

If a model 49 is "hammerless", what's that thing that you're pulling back when you cock it? 49's and 649's have hammers.

As I've said before

I take my one-and-only J-frame to the range now and again just to remind myself of why I mostly buy K-frames.

I have a 40, three 3'' 36'S and an extremely worn mod 38 with a hipgrip. The mod 38 is my American Express card.

I have to answer yes and no.
I like the 642, carried it for a while until I read about a few that were cracking the frame under the barrel. I had to send my 642 back to S&W for a different reason and while waiting I got a 4513TSW for a birthday present, so started carrying that. S&W eventually replaced my 642 so I put it in my jacket pocket as a BUG. Then my 4513 went back to S&W for some service so I am carrying 60-10 right now, nice SS .357 3" with adjustable sights and a hammer spur. Neither affects my IWB carry so that is my primary carry while my semi is in for service. And my 642 is still in the jacket pocket as a BUG.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes shooting one...though the feeling wears off a little after 50 rounds or so.

I just traded this... for Nickel baby Chief

But I have back ups.. (2) 1953 Centennial Airweights (Pre -pre 642)

A 940 9mm

A pre =pre 640 or a real Centennial

And my EDC a 649-3 in 357 mag... A shrouded hammer but able to use in SA.. the best of both worlds:D

Interesting! About 80%.

Although maybe a little less since some think the humpbacks count.;)
