More police officers would rather shake your hand then hassle you for a NRA sticker in NJ. Afterall they don't like going through hoops to get a Pistol Purchase Permit either.

From my 35 years of driving just about every artery in NJ and conversations with shooters in 2 clubs and well as sharing many a libation with the very people we speak of...that has rarely been the case.
What has been the case however is the idea of making a promotion and /or career from getting that lucky break from the millions of vehicles that traverse NJ on our major Highways going to NYC,Boston,Philadelphia so again....I just don't see it.

I know one NRA sticker got my truck searched, cough "tossed" cough, late one night on base while I was in military. The MP went into my cup holders and pulled out the entire contents of my full height tool box. Hmph. I used to have Raven (Gunsite logo), Thunder Ranch, or other discreet stickers on different work trucks or vans. When I go more than 20 minutes from my city people have window gun racks in use.

Which is great if you're a LEO of any stripe but as is too often the case in our fine state,if you're not a LEO,friend and family of a LEO,politically connected or a celebrity, calling attention to oneself and a fondness for firearms is just asking for a stop for perhaps an "illegal lane change" or "non functioning tail light" and "would you mind me taking a look in your trunk"?
So considering we have grown men going to jail for possession of air rifles,stray HP rounds,one "evil " feature on a perfectly legal gun or perhaps violating a "reasonable deviation" from a route between home and range I, as most do, limit any possible exposure to our fine men in law enforcement.

....and quite telling,now as the video indicated the laws governing firearms and their transportation is varied and confusing and no reasonable person would expect your average patrolman or town cop to know every rule but if unsure most of these LEOs will assume the worst and you'll end up seeing a judge and incurring some very expensive legal fees just to prove you,the firearm and the transportation were indeed legal.
....all the more reason not to call attention to oneself or one's vehicle in NJ with any decal that may identify you as a firearm's owner.

As I've illustrated we have a greater concern at being targeted by our LE community than some vague bad guy in need of a gun in this state.

So, some of you who will not display something like an NRA sticker because of the antis. You must think they are winning and your going to let them dictate to you that much. The paint job on my car doesn't mean as much to me as my beliefs. People key cars just for fun, sticker or no. Thieves steal and 99% of the time with little or no thought. If you have a permit the cops in many locals know it as soon as they run your tags or DL. I don't run a bunch of stickers, but I will NOT hide. I would stand up in a Mothers against Guns convention or what have you and tell them all I got a pile of em. Am I luck I live in Montana, ya because the people here have never let that BS run over us and nobody here is afraid to let their opinion be known. Most of the sheriffs here have already stated they will not enforce more gun laws. Besides not believing in them they like their jobs.

Someone might follow you home because you drive a nice car, wear a good watch, have a good suit. What ever. They might just drive down your street and say that house looks good. BOO But, like I said 99% don't event think that far ahead.

One of my least favorite bumper stickers of all time is the one that says "My kid beat up your honor student." That's just plumb stupid and offensive.

I've got to say I'm not impressed with either sticker. I'll be more impressed if the honor student or the kid beating up the honor student actually gets through school and contributes to society. Tell me about it then.....

I have an NRA sticker on my truck. Most people confuse it for the USMC logo, unless they are standing a few feet from my truck.

First of all I will state that as a Handgun Carry Permit holder in Tennessee I have the option of concealed or open carry that I concealed carry. I will further state that I have been a member of NRA but no longer although I do have the stickers or decals.

I open carry only when I go to the gun range the rest of the time it is concealed. I do have S&W clothing but usually wear it at the range or where those that know me do not really care about it.

At almost 61 years old I do not need to prove my manhood and keep a low profile, stickers of any kind might cause you unnecessary and costly problems...why invite them! Of course the older you get the more cautious you become as you know that you are not the best or invulnerable or immune to crime or keyed cars or flat tires, it is not worth the risk.

Making it to 70 is my next goal...YMMV

Houdini1953, I think you hit upon another determining factor in doing things like this - age. Being almost 60, I place a LOT more value on things like quiet, peace of mind, privacy, uneventfulness, than I did in my youth.

There was a day when I went out of my way to find fights, now, I try to avoid them like the plague.

Well, I am 62 and you are right I value my peace and quiet. I don't have anything to prove. But, I also a whole lot less incline to care what anyone else thinks. Stupid stickers are of course stupid. A USMC sticker, a peace officers sticker and one that says Americas worst gangs, Democrats & Republicans will stay on my car and my truck and I am not going to worry about it.

It is never alright to key someone's car no matter what their bumper sticker says. Although I didn't act on it, I will confess to have contemplated keying someone who parked taking up 2 parking places.

I am in the no advertising camp.

Again, this is the type of thing I was illuding to when starting this thread. Cars being broken into SPECIFICALLY looking for guns....and at least one of these cars did NOT have any stickers/decals on them. I'm guessing that the thieves would immediatelly shift focus from a a car with no stickers if they spotted one that had them.

You, me, and others have expressed rational reasons for not using stickers on our cars or homes, and (for my part) are certainly not trying to tell others what they should do.

Yet, not one dissenter has put forth a rational reason for having the stickers. Basically, I'm seeing - "I just want to", which is fine...but not a rational reason to even POTENTIALLY expose ones self to danger. IMHO

Wow...I feel much better knowing the "rational police" is here letting us know when we are being rational or not. Makes me feel irrational enough to want to go out and rip the stickers off my truck before I'm attacked and robbed.

I don't put any type of sticker on my car. I had to have a parking sticker for my job but that's it.

Don't like the looks and don't want to advertise I have a gun. Not so much because someone would attack me in my car but they might see it at my home and break in. I'd likely have my EDC on me but I have other guns in the house that they might get. If not, they could certainly get my tv's and other stuff.

Team logos and other stickers might end up getting a car keyed also. Just rather not put stickers on my vehicles.

There is one thing about this thread that bothers me and I don't know if I'm able to communicate it correctly so please don't be offended if I can't.

The fact is that there are documented incidents of people's vehicles being vandalized because they had a certain bumper sticker on the car. It may not happen often and it may not have happen where you live (yet) but it does happen.

It's your life and your car, if you decide that the reward of having a given sticker on your car out weighs the risk then by all means put it on there but please don't tell me I'm crazy if I decide the risk out weighs the reward. And please don't tell me it doesn't ever happen
