Do You use a VPN? (E.g., to Thwart Big Brother?)

I just got a pop-up from Avast!, my security software. Seems they are now offering something called Avast SecureLine VPN. Claims: (1) hides all sites visited from your internet service provider; (2) Stops eavesdropping on your connection; (3) Encrypts everything you do online.

I might be dubious of such claims from elsewhere, but not from Avast!. I have used Avast! for online antivirus and antispyware security for many years, and it has always worked very well for me. SecureLine VPN's cost is $79.99 for three years. I think I'll check into it.

I ordered NordVPN yesterday and installed it. Haven't noticed any slowdown on sites I visit, including my financial ones. I can have up to 6 different computers, phones, etc. on it. I will install it on my Fiancees computer hopefully today, but haven't decided if I want it on my Android phone, since I rarely surf the web on it, and don't use it for any banking purposes at all.

After all of my years on the web, it may be a case of closing the barn door after the horse is gone but I have gone the VPN route too.

Installed NordVPN yesterday and took advantage of a 2 year subscription special that they were offering. I installed it on Mac, iPad and iPhone with no issues. Easy to use and fairly intuitive interface.

I am not involved in any nefarious or illegal activities. However, I do not want someone to infer that because I looked at information about a particular disease that I therefore have that disease (read Insurance company).

The sites that I visit and the things that my naturally inquisitive mind compels me to investigate are my business and mine alone.

Bill
