DOB Model 58

I just purchased a used S&W Model 58 in .41 magnum that is in excellent condition. It has been fired and looks almost new except for some slight blue wear at the muzzle.

I would be interested if anyone might know when this gun was manufactured. The S/N is S295xxx.

Does it have diamond magnas? That would date really close to the deletion of the diamond magnas 1968.

It came with Hogue grips and not the original grips, however, it was a great price. I actually think a pair of Ahrends grips would look great on this gun.

Great purchase Traub! I picked up my first .41 mag on the forum about 5 years ago. It is a 4" model 58. A strange thing happened after I bought it; suddenly and steadily, additional model 57's and a couple of model 58's mysteriously made their way into my safe. Hmmm; could have something to do with the .41 mag porridge being "just right". I've noticed I can find .41 mag and .38 super ammo on dealers' shelves, albeit not very deep, while things like .22LR, 9mm, .40S&W and 5.56 are virtually either non-existent, or selling for double and triple prices of a couple of months ago.

I have a Model 60, that some people refer to as a "Lady Smith that I am trying to get some information on. I understand that some of these may be quite valuable. I have followed a bunch of forum strings and have never seen a reference to as low a serial number as mine. It begins with the letter "R" and is only four digits long. Most of the models dated are at least five digits after the "R". This has a 2" barrel and gray plastic (pearl?) grips. I am sure is it older than 1973, but not positive. There is absolutely no visible wear indicators on the gun.
