A few weeks back I got sucked into the 10 mm addiction. I located a 1076 FBI issue. It has been confirmed but I am waiting for the Jinks letter....

About a week after that one landed I was minding my own business searching a popular auction site and I stumbled on this one. It came boxed and lettered by Smith & Wesson as originally shipped to the FBI in 1990. Here is the TWIST.... It also came with a notarized affidavit of ownership .....from the FBI Agent that purchased it back from the factory! How cool is that?!?!?!

I just "HAD" to have this one. I can't imagine too many others get tied to the agents that bought them back. I'm a sucker for a good story!

The story as I know it..... A husband and wife (Mr. & Mrs. Royce Logan) both worked for the FBI together. The Mr. Logan retired in 1988, Mrs. Logan in 1995. When the 1076s were returned to S&W the agents were given a buy back option. Well this FBI couple purchased this gun. It remained in their possession until after Mr. Logan passed in 2011. Mrs. Logan retained this one until 2012. It has changed hands a few times since then, but was S&W lettered by the seller in Dec 2014. The affidavit has stayed with the gun since it left the Logan family. The package will stay in my collection for the long haul.

If anyone knew/knows Mr & Mrs Logan I would live a PM!

Great story to go along with a damn fine 10 mm Dan. Thanks for sharing it. That's a treasure for sure!

That's an awsome history. I was with a DOJ agency in the early 90s when the AG decided to prohibit DOJ trade-ins or allowing LE employees to buy their duty guns in order to staunch the flow of guns on the street...

Yes, that particularly "wrongheadedness" courtesy AG JR. I was there as well and "logic" her people used to justify this nonsense would make you cry. She was the most anti-law enforcement AG this country has ever seen. Efforts to repeal her edict have been singularly unsuccessful. I would be remiss if I did not point out that the nation's gun manufacturers supported her decision to destroy all (w/limited exceptions) firearms coming into the possession of Federal law enforcement. Can anyone guess how many Colt Thompson .45 cal. submachine guns the FBI destroyed in the 90s? Not to mention the 2,500 Model 1076s and crates of replacement parts and magazines. Or how many rare and invaluable historical firearms BATF&E destroys each year. Rats.....must exit soap box.

Wow!!! Very nice Dan. If it should please the court, could I please plead "no contest"?? I tried to warn you, I'm not sure what it is...but the 10MM bug is a strong one. For myself personally, it is the fact that not many know or use it. I generally prefer the more obscure calibers, I guess it's just the lefty in me.

I am going to try to attach a couple of pics. I am certain that compared to yours and Jim's they will look like a first grader!!

Once I get the "smartphone" I will need some of you "smart guys" to teach me how to use it!!

First pic ..from left to right, top to bottom, Model 1006, Model 1026, missing the rare and elusive Model 1046, Model 1066, Model 1076 Lettered FBI Model and Model 1086.

The second pic, really does not belong...just put it out there so Jim might quit "busting your chops".

All the best my friend, Bob

It must be a lefty thing I guess.....I just love these 10 mm also. I'm starting to find out we have a lot in common Bob!

As far as the pics.....well beyond 1st grade, I'd guess at least a 5th grader took those. LOL. and thanks for rubbing the 610 in.....glad to know Brewster isn't the only one willing to do that :D

The hunt begins for the rest........
