A few weeks back I got sucked into the 10 mm addiction. I located a 1076 FBI issue. It has been confirmed but I am waiting for the Jinks letter....
About a week after that one landed I was minding my own business searching a popular auction site and I stumbled on this one. It came boxed and lettered by Smith & Wesson as originally shipped to the FBI in 1990. Here is the TWIST.... It also came with a notarized affidavit of ownership .....from the FBI Agent that purchased it back from the factory! How cool is that?!?!?!
I just "HAD" to have this one. I can't imagine too many others get tied to the agents that bought them back. I'm a sucker for a good story!
The story as I know it..... A husband and wife (Mr. & Mrs. Royce Logan) both worked for the FBI together. The Mr. Logan retired in 1988, Mrs. Logan in 1995. When the 1076s were returned to S&W the agents were given a buy back option. Well this FBI couple purchased this gun. It remained in their possession until after Mr. Logan passed in 2011. Mrs. Logan retained this one until 2012. It has changed hands a few times since then, but was S&W lettered by the seller in Dec 2014. The affidavit has stayed with the gun since it left the Logan family. The package will stay in my collection for the long haul.
If anyone knew/knows Mr & Mrs Logan I would live a PM!
