Dodge Ram 1500 Question.

I, too, work for a Dodge dealer, and I think that the Ram 1500 regular cab with the monotone paint scheme is one of the sharpest trucks on the road.

Sal, at the end of the day it's still a Dodge.:D

That was kinda rude so I will add this. My neighbor has had 3 Dodge 1/2 ton pickups. Both a 2002 and a 2004 and put over 250,000 miles on both of them. He also has a 2008 F150 and he bought a 2012 Dodge 1/2 ton with the hemi and he just loves it. To be fair I have never owned a Dodge but some of the newer ones are really nice trucks. Dodge has really stepped up and made their trucks nice. My friend Hank gets pretty good mileage with his new Dodge also. I worked for GM for 47 years and the above starting remark of my reply was what we would tell the guys that talked about Dodges. I think they make a fine product.

We have a '03 Ram 1500 and we love it. Friend of ours has a 2011 1500 Ram with the HEMI and he loves it. We also have a 2013 Durango R/T and it's an awesome ride.

I test drove a 2013 Ram and dislike the interior, but do love the HEMI power plant.

Bottom line; you can't go much wrong with a Dodge.

But just to be honest, my brother in law has a 2012 Ford F150 FX4 and he loves it too. So I guess Ford is not doing that bad... quality wise...

I love mine and it has served flawlessly for ten years. ( Laramie Quad Cab, Hemi, leather, etc). As long as Ford and Chevy continue to use a brick as their styling model, and Chevy insists on square-cut fender wells that look foolish, well I'be firmly in the Ram camp. Interesting to hear they are bringing a diesel into the light truck market...

One thing I forgot to mention our local car wash has a sign that says NO DODGE TRUCKS, I guess the wheel base is too wide for their tracks, but I have a Dakota, shouldn't be a problem, so I pull in and this guy comes running out, HAY can't you read, I told him it wasn't a full size, he said I don't care, read the sign, so I have to wash it at home or wait for it to rain.

My opinion is that the trucks they make today are so good that it really boils down to personal preference. Ford for instance-I love the way they look but the seats kill me. Can't handle the Ford seats they tear up my back too much on long trips. GMC products on the other hand have great seats for me. My 99 suburban with the 350 (or whatever they call it) is on it's first engine, first transmission, second rear end(had to replace the whole thing at 345,000 miles when the housing holding the wheel bearing cracked)) and is still running great at 355,000. I love that truck. It's two wheel drive but has the limited slip differential for those slippery boat ramps. Always kept a protective layer of dirt on it to protect the paint-the loose dirt gets washed off when it rains-so the paint is in good shape-no rust whatsoever. Been running it with the "check engine" light for 3-4000 miles. The mechanic says the code says my converter is clogged but a new one will cost about a grand and as long as I am getting good power and my gas mileage ain't off then no point in changing it. The passenger side winshield wiper quit working which just means I can get by with swapping the drivers side blade out for the it before having to buy a new blade and now I just have to buy one from now on out. Use rain-X on the passenger side. Got a two year inspection sticker do I'm good to go.
Oh and my wife won't be seen dead in it! :D

Last summer I bought a '13 Ram 1500 ST 3.6L (DOHC, 24 Valve), 8 speed, 3.21 gears. Loaded with all the popular options including SiriusXM radio that is the cat's meow. Truck is very well built, solid, quiet cab, super fuel economy achieving 18-20 in town, 27+ highway.
It's a luxury car with a box in back. I am a very happy camper

I own a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 series Laramie 5.7 Hemi. I love it I baby it, keep it clean, maintenance it and keep the K&N air filter clean as well I might be considering the Mopar version of the air filter so it doesn't void my warranty. I have the crew version where its spacious in the back seats. I love the sound coming from the cat back exhaust. :D:D

I know this is a old thread but if the Dodge Ram have the same long term fit and finish as other Chryslers, I would stay away from them. I was looking at Dodge Ram a few months ago and it looked good both inside and out. With that being said, other newer Chrysler products (2010+) that I have used and owned shows that there will be a fare amount of electrical problems and the once clean and tight interior will soon look like its been to hell and back.

Over the years, I really try to like Chrysler products as I think they look better then Ford and GM, but its the QC problems that they still continue to have that makes me look else where.

IMO, the F150 Platinum and Limited are over priced name plates. The King Ranch provides all of the goodies that the other two have without all of the unneeded flash.

I have an '05 Dodge Ram with 285,000 miles. Very few problems and no major problems. Regular oil changes with Mobil One. My buddy owns a mobile dent repair business and keeps it dent and ding free. I love this truck.

I have a 1998, 1500, 4x4, 227,000 miles, tranny just went. I am going to fix and run it for another 200,000. GREAT TRUCK.

Did you get one Sal?

I don't care for my Dodge truck. 2006 3500 diesel. Love the engine though.

Mine eats drive shaft joints, they are too small for the torque of the engine. I can change them in 45 minutes now. Drop the drive shaft, beat the old joints out, tap the new ones in, reinstall the shaft.

The seats stain from just rain drops.
The bumpers rust on the inside immediately.
Even the seat track bolts are rusted.
The tach quit working long ago.
The heater door broke.
Front bearings went out, front U-joints twice now.
TIPM computer went out.
Wiring connections failed and made my truck go into 4x4 on its own. Kinda scary going 65 and the truck shifts into 4lo!!!
The wiring harness at each door keeps breaking so the locks and window quit working.
Replaced the starter batteries and the computer didn't like the new ones and kept throwing repair codes.
Wires are run all over the truck where they rub against sharp edges. The air conditioner pressure sensor wire runs right across the oil pan edge. I can't count how many wires I've had to repair.

All of these issues are design problems. I swear they design them to break down so the service dealers can make money.

If it weren't for the Cummins under the hood I'd not own a Dodge.

This sounds so typical for these trucks, especially in the northern states with rust issues. Keep an eye on those brakes lines along the frame, they rust out too. I thought I was the only person who thought these 3/4 and 1 tons go through u-joints rather quickly. I suppose your tweaked cummins doesn't help either.

Seems you do not have the annual inspection and smog check we get here. An emissions fault like that will get you a fail and you won't be able to register your vehicle.

I have an 08 and really like the looks of yours. I have had to put fuel in the thing on a regular basis and replace all the oil every 3000 miles. Other than air in the tires that has been it.
