I have a M65 3" that is my carry gun and I just love it but I never really see too much written about them at all. I know some models are just not that popular but I am surprised that there is almost no talk about this gun. I think it is the perfect carry gun for me. The fixed sights, 3" barrel and round butt K frame just make it the perfect gun for me. Anyone else ever heard of this model? LOL.

not sure why...

armybass,
Really not sure why you don't hear much about this model, it is a solid revolver, either in the regular production version, or the LadySmith variation.
Nothing to complain about, they are all good... :)

Well I have done a few searches and could not really find anything at all about them and just never see anything mentioned.

Very nice collection!

I have one as one of my carry firearms, and almost totally because of what I've read about them here.

I don't know if older posts are searchable on the new board, but there have been VERY many comments regarding the 3" Model 65.

There has been more than a few threads about the 65. particularly the 3 inch and how it makes a wonderful CCW. I know it is my CCW of choice unless I am carrying my kimber.

I have one I bought 20 years ago for $249, it was a steal, It is my CCW firearm, extremely comfortable, in an El Paso "crosshair " Rig.
But beside the concealed carry issue, it is very well balanced, the heavy barrel makes it just a bit muzzle heavy, maybe I shouldn't use the word heavy, more like nauturally pointable, and for a 357 it is not at all uncomfortble to shoot heavy loads through it, I shoot it rapid fire on occasion just to get the feel of what I might need at some point, and it is a fast recovery firearm for such a short barrel, I love it, and would not sell it unless starvation set in, I've often thought of buying a few more of them and keeping them around the house as go to guns.
just my 2 cents.

the M65 is probably one of the more talked about guns when it comes to a all around carry revolver.
I carry a M65 4" 50% of the time loaded with .357mags.
carried in a belly band, it conceals very well.

There is a lot of interest in them around here. I know two guys lately who were looking for one and finally gave up. One of them ended up with a 3" Model 13 and the other guy just gave up. I don't see one pop up very often. They are a perfect carry gun no doubt.

When I got mine a couple of years ago, a dealer had alot of them that were retired service guns. They were all in really good shape except for the holster wear and an occassional nick here and there. They were $319. If I knew what great revolvers they are, I would have bought a couple of them. This was it after I bobbed the hammer and bead blasted it. I have since brought it back to the stock configuration, I just need to get magnas back on it now.

I have one I traded into a few years back. It's DAO with a bobbed hammer. I carry it in a CABO holster.

Great carry set up.

Hi,

Lots and lots has been written about the awesome Model 65 3" revolvers on this forum in the past . . . as well as it's blued brother, the Model 13.

In the hands of proficient handgun shooters, most of us feel it is just as accurate as a four-inch version . . . and much faster from the holster in matches and on the "street." The 3" version also points, swings and handles better in MY hands during action-type handgun matches than the 4" version. I love mine!

Mine's a 1984 era Model 65-3 and it shoots dead on for point of aim with the loads I love. Most of 'em (NO ONE can say "all of 'em" . . . though that's probably almost accurate) have their sights regulated this well . . . and they NEVER go out of adjustment like adjustable sighted guns.

Yep, the M65/13 3" revolvers are wonderful indeed! I bought my '84 revolver in 1990 . . . and paid $235 for a really nice one. It is still as tight as the day I bought it, and I've shot it a lot! Regardless of what you paid for your recently, you price IS a good one . . . for they will only keep going up in price in the coming years for good specimens!!!

Here's a photo of mine . . . for yet another time. I'll bet I've posted it's photo here at least fifty times during the past few years. It is pictured with S&W rosewood grips from the early 1990s era, and it wears Hogue Conversion Monogrip "rubbers" for matches.

Enjoy your outstanding, OUTSTANDING revolver!

T.

PS: I also have a Model 19-5 from the same basic era . . . an adjustable-sighted version with a 2 1/2" barrel, and hands-down I prefer the 3" M65 much, much more. IMHO . . . NO COMPARISON!!!

I have a 3" M65 that I carry in an El Paso Street Combat holster during cool weather here in Tennessee. Unfortunately, "cool weather" is usually just the month of February so it spends most of its time on the nightstand.

The model 65 with a 3" barrel was my favorite carry gun EVER.That was until it got stolen along with 14 other guns, and a whole lot of other stuff from my house. It will be a year July 1 since this happened and I haven't been able to find another. Its starting to seem like everybody who has one plans on keeping it forever.Oh well, enough whining I got two gunshows coming up so maybe I'll get lucky. And as it turned out, getting robbed was a good excuse to also try and replace my 629 and my 29-3 and my 3" mod 13,my 3 28-2's,my pre war M&P's and....

I have a 4" round butt 65-5, and a 3" 65-3. I can't find a thing wrong with them. They are both excellent shooters.

The 65 (and the 13) shoot and handle great. Mine is a 65-1 4" that I got new in '79. I swapped the original trigger for a smooth .312. Everyone who I have let shoot it has offered to take it off my hands.

Well I really wanted a M13 and still do but I wanted a snub for carrying and I thought it would be better to have a SS gun for carrying. I will get a M13 for fondling at some point. When I was picking up my 686 months back, this was sitting right next to it so I snagged them both. Mine is a M65-6.

My first duty gun (early 1981) was a Model 65 (4" SB). I still have it, although we're not "allowed" to carry revolvers anymore. I've had Herrett's Shooting Masters on it since day one, and if allowed only one gun to keep, this would be it. Easy, rugged, reliable, and the .357 is arguably one of the best defensive rounds. A year or two ago, I was helping a buddy locate a 3" Model 64, which I got from a member in the Forum classifieds. He also had a 3" Model 65 RB for sale, so I bought it for myself. Still haven't shot that one, but I just had to have it! The 65 is nothing really "special" - just a basic workhouse. It's well liked and respected, but it's not really something you can 'customize' and it didn't come in a lot of variations. (I'd love to have a 65 LS, but they go for a premium price, and don't seem to come available very often- that alone says a lot about the gun!)
