Floating hand?

I know it has been discussed here before, but could someone show the difference between a regular hand and a "floating" one. I may be able to help out with one if I know what to look for.

I have one K Frame hand in my stash!!
Let me go dig that crate out & measure it & I'll be back a little later on after dinner & some TV..
I'll post a pic too, It's the non floating style hand..

Here's a pic I saved from a while back that shows a normal K Frame hand next to a Floating L frame hand..

I am looking to replace the one on the right with the one on the left, :D I don't like floating hands. They can be replace with a standard hand and improve the action considerable.

Thanks

PS I figured that those with hands would show up here!

What was the reason for the "floating hand"? It would appear to have been to enhance something, as it appears to be more complex, thus more expensive to mfg. Since S&W usually makes changes to: 1.Fix a problem; 2. Reduce mfg. costs; 3. Improve functioning, this would have to have been for improving functioning you would think.

Are they still utilized, or have they been discontinued also?

I have a regular K frame hand measuring at 095.5 and a floating hand measuring 097. Should you be interested let me know and I will send what ever one or both to you, no cost. I`m in Canada so it would probably take some time to reach you. Have a good one.

John: The hand arrived today! I immediately tore down the 617 and installed the hand. It worked perfectly. Early carry up, better than the original hand, but not wide enough to cause any hand/ratchet conflict. No more hitch in the double action pull. Thanks very, very much!
