Does anyone here have one of those American Aviator watches?

It's a forty-dollar watch made in China, which means it might have cost five bucks to manufacture. Then you get to pay another five bucks for shipping.

How much you think ol' Rick would give you for one if you wanted to hock it? Nuff said.

I won't be buying one.

I'm a cheapskate, not looking to spend more than $50. But thanks for the suggestion.

Better Watch

Dang, I was hopin' to up-grade from a Timex. Guess I'll save the money and get another pair of custom grips made.

IMHO, Your Timex (any Timex) will be a better watch. IMHO, save your money. While I was flying I wore a TAG Heuer Formula 1 that I won't tell you how much it cost me. And I didn't feel that it was too much watch. ............

When I quit flying and went to ground patrol work, I felt the TAG was too valuable to risk. So, I bought a Werner (of Swiss Army Knife fame) Military and that served me extremely well. I then started carrying a cell phone and lost the need for also wearing a wrist watch. ............

As with most anything, you get what you pay for. At $40, my guess is that watch will keep accurate time for about a week. If that.
If you want an honest opinion..? Buy once and cry once.
I have a Marathon TSAR which I bought years ago. It has served me through multiple deployments, backwoods camping and hiking trips, and other rather rough work. The tritium vials are still bright and it keeps time better than my two other atomic watches. It cost me about $350 (not including the stainless bracelet strap) at the time. But, I will not need another watch. Plus, if I ever want the tritium replaced it will cost me roughly $30 and then be good for another 15-20 years.

Aviators don't even need a watch any more. Plenty in the plane and everything is GPS these days anyways.
And that watch they're hawking has absolutely nothing to do with aviation or WWII.
Shame on Rick

Ringo check out Seiko Automatic dive watches on Amazon.........been using one since 1988/89....... Model SKX007K $425 watch for about $185.....a classic look.....

Here's a couple of Seikos that I wear a lot. The last one is a vintage Seiko 6309 diver I restored this summer, and the other pair are the Orange Monster and an SKX007 modded to remind one of a 60s military diver watch.

I love orange faced dive watches. This one has been on my wrist, daily, for a lot of years.

I remember when you could buy a Seiko watch on Okinawa in 1968 for ten bucks. Back then, they were sorta like the Japanese Timex.

Number of Dirk Pitt fans I see.

6309 is one of my favorites as well.

Nice collection........ over the years I got the Seiko and the Smiths.........then some more Smiths.........and some more........

one day I realized I liked Smiths more than expensive watches.

but I have acquired a few Sekio dive watches. (Overstock and Amazon have good pricing for this skinflint Scotsman)

All my Sekio's are stainless.......... shame they never made one in "blue steel"..........:D

I used to like Casio....then I got a G shock made in China(it stopped).Found my old discontinued Brietling "Shark"! I had a link break & went to get it fixed....said I needed a new band!! Forget the fancy band & price.Got a Brietling dive band (few yrs.ago) & wear the watch everyday.
Have to admit the new Citizen watches (solar) look great! Naw...guess I'll stick with my Shark!

My Seiko was a gift from my family for my college graduation. It kept great time. When it died I was in a fix. I didn't want to spend $2000+ on a Tag Heuer. I was able to get one for free with points I had built up with my company. I love it.

Timex it'll be. I think the WWII thing is just to sell more watches? I'll pass on ricks offer. I didn't exactly need another Timex or watch yet? but was just wondering if that offer was worth it. The thing that got me interested in it, was the WWII angle. If I want to get fancy? I'll get a Philipp Patek, or a Benrus.

No, I bought the razor.
I don't have an airplane, so I wouldn't be able to tell if the watch worked or not.
Looking at Rick's head shining, I KNEW the razor worked. :D

Heh heh, I'll bet he waxes.:D Rick--though worth millions, is so cheap that he doesn't use a powered razor. I actually thought of buying one of those razors he was hawking.

I had a Seiko kinetic watch years ago. It used motion to charge a rechargeable battery. Guess what, the battery eventually went bad.
I can only assume the eco drive watches also use a rechargeable battery. If not it would only run when exposed to sunlight. Eventually all rechargeable batteries loose the ability to take a charge.

look for a citizen eco drive, solar powered, no battery, no winding

I'll second the Citizen. Nice not too expensive watches for everyday use.

Barely even notice this one on my wrist.
