Those are two very tough questions.
I am not sure that S&W ever officially discontinues any product. We have seen production stop on various configuration only to suddenly reappear 5-10 or more years later.
Will a production 1911 become a collectible within our lifetime? I doubt it.
However, every S&W is a future collectible if you keep it long enough. Some will just become collectible sooner than others.
