Does Nyquil really help?

If you are lucky you have a cough. Get a script for codeine flavored cough syrup. Now here's where the secret comes in. Take a double dose-lie down in bed and turn on the TV and in about 20 minutes you will be "in the zone" and will be there for the next 8 or so hours. You may have to repeat once but after that the cold is gone and you're up and going. This isn't for everyone and I'm not advocating misusing ANY drug-but I AM a professional and I know things.....;)
My handle is not CAJUNDOCTOR so I disclaim any liability either expressed or implied but this has worked for me in the past. :D

Alka Seltzer cold medicine helps me get a good night's sleep. Remember to be in bed BEFORE you take it or you won't make it to bed and you will wake up on the floor the next morning! :D

Live through it for a week or two and you will be immune to that particular cold virus. I worked in a drugstore for four years during high school and college. Folks coughed on me regularly and I was sick a lot. I do not remember the last time I had a cold. I still come down with the flu about once every eight to ten years. A good immune system is a wonderful thing. About eight ounces of white grapefruit juice mixed with two ounces of vodka might help you pass the time away.

Pseudophed is a....

Pseudophed is a good decongestant, I think the only good antihistamines would do for a cold is to make you drowsy so you can 'sleep it off' which is the best cure besides lots of water and keeping warm. I always thought that Nyquil was good to knock you out so you could sleep and knock out the cold. The 'knock out effect' of Nyquil may be too much for you.

If I take my max dose of Xanax at night, I can't think straight for most of the next day.

BTW - pseudophed is a stimulant, so something to make you drowsy is probably needed, but not too much.

Nyquil works well for me, but Dayquil does nothing. Mostly what Nyquil does is help me sleep. Sleep is the best thing for many minor illnesses.

My father rarely missed more than one day of work at a time. When he had the Flu or a bad cold, he'd retreat to bed and stay there all day. He'd have either soup or orange juice. He probably took Aspirin, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the next morning he was up and out the door as normal.

Of course being the owner of a small business was likely an incentive too.

I drink tea (hot) several times a day and tea contains anti-oxidants, which may help in preventing colds and cancer. But if you add milk, I've read that it overrides the anti-oxidants.

One member mentioned eating "Naval" oranges. I've seen this spelling error even in grocery stores. Actually, it's "Navel" oranges, for the open spot on one end. To be a Naval orange, it would have to be adopted by a Navy.

I feel sure that all of you here will rejoice to know this.

Yes it helps.

The night time stuff keeps me in self induced semi-coma for a couple days. Feel better when I wake up.

I believe that Nyquil was the inspiration for the fictional SNL "Hibernol". Nyquil is fine if I don't have much to do the next day. It has that effect on me:

That's one of the problems. I can't be semi-comatose in Vegas traffic or at my job.

Psuedophed PE is non-drowsy but not a stimulant AFAIK. They took the stuff out that the meth cookers want but it still clears your head. Maybe I'll try that with Mucinex nest time.

The Alka-Selzer plus has worked for me in the past with no real ill effects. Only trouble is that women are not supposed to take it IIRC. Perhaps I should get that and leave the Nyquil to my girl.
