Does or has anyone use(d) the lock on their revolver?

I guess I really have no opinion of the lock on mine because its the only s&w that I've owned (so far), but I was just curious if people just ignore it or choose to follow the instructions on a couple youtube videos I watched about removing it.

On my 642 I just ignore it; don't even know where the key is.

Mine is only two weeks old and I just realized I don't know what the hell I did with the key. Oh well, problem solved I guess.

I remove the flags as the hammer seems to drag on them in about half my guns. But I did check it out when I got my first post-lock.

Every time I have guests over I make sure to turn the key and keep it locked. I lock it when it's sitting in the safe and also lock it when it's on my hip, just in case, because you never know.
--I'm just kidding. That little key hole is perhaps the most useless thing in the gun industry.

This is an interesting question. I also had the thought that because of all the flaming of the lock, those that use it may not admit it here. Kidding aside I'd like to hear from those that find it useful.

Replaced the lock with "The Plug" on my 340PD and 329NG because they are for serious work.
I left the lock on my 63-5 because it's my fun gun, but I don't use the lock at all.

Years ago I put one of the S&W keys on my keychain "just in case".....the dreaded involuntary lock-up occurred. Have never used it. I ignore them. Over 10,000 rounds through IL revolvers including some real hard-kickers (a pair of 500s, 340PD among several) with nary a glitch. But the key is on hand at all times, just in case!

I only have 2 models with the lock (M500 & 629 for hunting) and both had the lock before being removed and "plugged."
Both locks are now in an envelope being used as ballast somewhere in a junk parts box.

This reads as if you meant "lock-up NEVER occurred".

Note that if you want to play here, you need to own a gun with a lock. Smug no-lockers need not comment.

That said, I purchased Plugs for each of my guns with locks that I have no intention of using.

By "lock," do you mean the "oil application port" which is available after that plug is removed?

I own two that came with a lock, a 325PD and a 22-4. Both have "The Plug." At one time I would have had a use for such a lock, if it were reliable and simple, like on the Taurus. Under MA law, I have no use for such a thing, thus there is no plus to weigh against any minus, however small, not that I'm claiming that it is small.
