I'm with BillyJack. Did it actually thread on in that second pic? Is this firearm straight out of the box, or did you have threads cut?

As a machinist I can say for certain somebody somewhere along the line messed up. Thats definately not right.

No! I would not pull the trigger on that firearm with the flash hider attached either! It looks like it has been crossthreaded! The muzzle will have to be retapped! :(

It was sent to S&W 2 weeks ago for repair, and I just received it today and this is what I got back. I originally sent it in because the flash hider was really tight and wouldn't screw down all the way. And I didn't force it BEACUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO SCREW UP THE THREADS! And also the rear sight on my carry handle was always crooked, so I figured since it was going in I would have them take a look at that too. They replaced it with a brand new carry handle, but I get it back and it looks like this!! I can assure you all there was no issues with the threads being crossed threaded before I sent it off.

Call customer service and talk to a body, then email them the picture. Somebody didn't know what they were doing and somebody else screwed up by letting that out of the shop. IMO it's time for a new barrel. (if they were smart they would apologize profusely and send you a complete new upper and hope you don't leak out the pictures of their shoddy work, oops, too late).

Agree completely with Bkreutz, that barrel is toast...someone at S&W needs to be given the opportunity to explore a new career path...

I'm not to mad about it..someone definatly screwed up and I have confidence that S&W will take care of. However I am with you guys in demanding a new barrel.

Was there any damage to the shipping box? At first, I thought the flash-hider had been cross-threaded on but after looking at it a little more, it looks like it was dropped on its muzzle.

Was sent to them in a original S&W AR case with foam padding, inside of a box. And I recieved it the same way, with no damage to the box or the case.

The flash hider is crooked and not even tight against the crush washer. The threads appear to be pretty much butchered. The barrel really needs to be replaced.

Dont even fire it! who knows where that bullet or its fragments will go. Wow.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

About a year ago I had a bad barrel in a new M&P15 5.56, sent it back to S&W, took about 5-6 weeks. It was the holidays though, but they took care of it, paid shipping both ways! Now I have a fine shooting rifle!

Ya this was in no way shape of form, caused during shipping, or from being dropped. The box, the case and the end of the flash hider has no marks to indicate it was dropped. Someone didn't take their time to align the die properly and it screwed it all the way down the line. You can feel all the rough metal on the threads them selves where the die was just chewing it's way along. Kinda sad it's gotta go back to S&W but I will be calling them first thing tomorrow and see what they have to say.
