Just a reminder to remember our troops, especially those overseas, and our wounded and disabled.
With Christmas coming, those troops deployed in the various theaters can get very homesick.
Many orgs and programs are out there that do things for the troops and vets, the USO being one of the leaders.
Give a moment and a few bucks to those who give so much for us.
May God's hand be on them all!
Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

I hope it's OK to post this. If the Mods need to remove it, I understand.

OOIDA, a trucking trade organization, is sending care packages to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, but they need addresses of soldiers currently serving there in order to send them. The addresses they used last year are no longer valid, as many troops have rotated out, and the military requires all mail to be addressed to a specific troop. If you have a family member serving, please send their address to: [email protected] More info here: Trucking Benefits and Services, Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association

You bet it's OK.
If anyone wishes to post other programs for the troops, have at it.
THANKS.

On behalf of my Marine son currently serving in AStan, thanks for all the good wishes. I won't share his address as it may be changing soon after Christmas and he says mail forwarding is not a reliable thing over there. But the other guys there will very much appreciate any mail from home. Thanks for the thread handejector.

At our local VFW Post we put together CARE packages and send them to the troops. We use the USPS. They are not real friendly about shipping packages, but it works OK. We put all kinds of different things in the packages. Food is one thing they don't ask for. But we still send canned peanuts and hard candies. Alot of local merchants donate little things. So we fill up the one rate boxes with all we can get in them and ship them off. Last batch we sent off 100 yo-yo's. We got a couple of thank you letters for those yo-yo's. Personal hygiene items are also in demand. We put a box of handi-wipes in every box.

I know it is not much, but I feel good when I donate a little money and take the time to help pack the boxes. It is the least I can do. I know whenever a serving soldier comes around his money is no good in our Post. We are just a small, but very friendly Post. Like a big family!! Tom.

I just helped our soldiers carry into the office two SUV's worth of mail and boxes here at Kandahar air field. We will all gain 20 lbs from just the candy we have received. I am so happy to see all the moral support these men and women receive from our nation. When a care package arrives, the receipent checks to see what they want, and then the rest goes on the community table. Oh, the other NATO troops are not forgetten either.

Thanks to all for continued support. From myself and the rest of us, we wish you a happy and safe Christmas and holiday season.

My son deployed a week ago on the USS Carl Vinson. I mailed 3 packages this morning. More to go in a week or so. I included, magazines, jerky, life savers, gum. and other stuff the kids put in. I am sending cigars and humidors right before Christmas. God bless the troops and keep them in your prayers.

There is considerable troop movement during the holiday period-it just happens that way. My son spent three Christmas holidays in combat. Anyway-if you have the opportunity-stop by an airport and welcome some kid home-or thank one for deploying.

Hey Maddog,
If you're going to send cigars, talk to Thompson Cigars CS. A buddy of mine managed to get them to send me over 200 stogies this summer. A lot of them didn't make it unfortunately, but the RPs and Davidoffs made it!

Also, Cigars International does a Cigars for Troops program and has no issues sending to APO/ FPO. A lot of packages make it in 5-8 days.

And thanks for your thoughts and prayers this season again folks. I just got done writing a letter back to a 3rd grade girl in TN that I got in one of my packages from Soldiers Angels.

Robin Williams and Lance Armstrong also made it out to my neck of the woods. Mad props to them and the USO for making it happen.
Looking forward to seeing you all next year!

Thanks all, my son has spent his last two birthdays (21st & 22nd) and now a Christmas fighting in Afghanistan and sometimes it's difficult being so far away. I know he appreciates the treats and goodies and all the things that find their way to him and the guys he works with. It's a real moral booster, knowing that folks back here are thinking of them.
