So... me and Coondog are in the truck waiting while the wife picks up a couple things at the grocery store for dinner. Radio ad comes on-- "Don't get tricked into paying your debt to credit card companies." Then goes on to say how they can help you erase what you owe... blah blah blah.

For nearly 60 years I've been under the impression that I must keep my word and return what I borrow. I've been tricked!

I guess we are old school. The era of 80/20 zero down mortgages seems to have popularized debt abandonment.
More curious is that people stop paying for their house, yet continue living there. I know of two couples that are doing that in NY for more than seven years.

Regardless of what the ad implies, you still have to pay your debt. What they do is get the late fees, penalties and possibly some of the accrued interest waived.

In the 90's my brother bought several lots in a very upscale neighborhood and built $225,000 (with inflation $300,000-325,000 today) houses as Executive Rental Housing. The people had to qualify to rent and then they could buy the house. It turned out to be a real good deal for good people that bad finances happened to. But there was a scum-bag that got in and tried not paying rent; he learned that was probably the only township in Ohio, where the Police took you to jail for passing bad checks! So we got our rent!

Mr. Scum-bag then financed the purchase price (110%) with an out of town mortgage company and never makes a single payment. After a few years they go to foreclose the property and he refinances with a different company (again 110% with the 10% as cash back!) and still never makes a payment. This went on for 7 years. I knew most of the township police, They generally thought we did a good thing for good people, but were somewhat pissed about all the work "Our" customer caused them. Since he was a scum-bag, of course he didn't move after the foreclosure! At the eviction The county bailiff pre-called for police back-up. In a township that normally only has to cruisers on duty, they had 5 cruisers at the eviction! Turns out two of the cops came in uniform but off duty, just for the fun of getting rid of this creep!

After 55 years in the apartment business, my family had all kinds of record on eviction rates for different neighborhoods, this was our first and only excursion into rental houses. The lesson learned: The % of evictions was the same in the ghetto as it was middle class and as it was in upper class! Good people are good people and jerks are jerks, no matter how much money they have!

Hint = ALL advertising is a lie.....

This should be pounded into the head of every kid as soon as they can understand. The whole system is designed to seperate you from your money. I invest in business because I know people can be convinced they "need" a $70,000 pick-up truck or a $5.00 cup of coffee. Don't pay interest, live below your means, keep what you earn, it belongs to you. Rant over.

Learned my lesson 'bout credit cards long ago. Cash is the cheapest way to buy.

That's old school! Today is all about how to get over on people, not pay your debts, it's always someone else's fault, and never take responsibility for what you get your self into. Yup - I guess we were duped!  :( :(

...and the people said AMEN. Preach it!

We borrowed money to buy the house we live in now, worked hard, refinanced 2 times to reduce interest, paid additional principle every month, except one. With God's help we paid it off in 12 1/2" years and are debt free.

P.S. We went through that credit card scam for years before going on a budget and cutting up the cards.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

What? No new Coon Dog pics? :( :D:D:D

Well... if you insist.

What I'd like to hear is a radio ad for no-grow dog food. :D

Growing like a weed...

I used to feel the same way. Once the banks lost their moral obligation to make loans that were likely to be paid back, and then started screwing over both their borrowers and the buyers of their securitized loans, I lost all sense of obligation. They don't have any.

Luckily for them I don't owe them anything.
