I've always thought that the 59's grips were a bit on the chintzy side (although I understand the ergonomic imperative behind having made them as thin as possible). So recently I bought these Thai grips, which turn out to be just thick enough that the gun no longer fits in its box. I'd prefer that they were walnut, but otherwise they're very nicely made, fit without any fuss, and as a 39 fan, for me they improve the look and feel of that gun's "big brother".

I now have two sets of the Thai/fleaBay grips on Colt snubs. One set has a noticeable gap, but the coloring and checkering make up for it. The other set fits perfectly. Both look great. Nothing against Altamont, et al, but the US-made wood grip prices are out of sight.

I've been singing the praises of Thai grips for at least a decade, but mine have been on revolvers. Since my taste in semi-autos runs to single stackers, I guess I should look for a set of them for my Model 639 Franken-Smith. ;)
