Drivers license/CCW connected?

In Mississippi we have no duty to inform, I do anyway as a courtesy.
The drivers license number and firearms permit number are the same.

My LEO friends tell me be polite, hands on the wheel, dome light on if it's dark, and inform them if you have a CCL and if you are or are not armed.
At that point they know that most likely you are a good guy and everyone can relax.
I am sure that attitude has gotten me a warning a few times, rather than a ticket.

As to post #99 there were no quotas where I worked, and as far as issueing the ticket it was done w/as much dispatch as possible to get the motorist on their way quickly. All I expected from the driver was their driver's license & registration. We went to court a month later and a judge determined guilt or innocence. If I lost the case no big deal. I worked my beat w/an eye toward preventing accidents and made recommendations for engineering changes to the city as necessary.

One of my former chiefs was dumb enough to not only have a quota system (illegal) but also posted his "memo of shame" calling out officers who didn't write enough tickets according to him. It was posted in the dispatch area so only officers/secretary had access to it, but it was very dumb regardless.

The question asked 6 years ago by the member who started this thread was are LEO informed that you have a concealed pistol license (CPL, Washington's name for it) when they check your drivers license, or in his words, are they linked. In Washington not only does your CPL come up but, whether or not you have a CPL, at the department's discretion, a list of the guns that you've received through FFLs also comes up.

That is to inform LEO en-route to a situation like a domestic dispute that there likely is a gun in the house.

What if you don't happen to be carrying at the time?
Do you have to inform them you aren't?

No you do not have to inform if you are not conceal carrying.

Oooops, noticed this is an old thread, with some new posts. As a former LEO, every person is possibly armed, they should be all treated as such as far as safe interactions.

It also makes future confiscation a LOT easier.
Considering that nearly all gun transfers between non-FFLs including loans of muzzle loading rifles made after 1898 are required to cross an FFLs books and thus be entered into Washington's data base your point is moot here. However, if the LEO looks to anti gun local bureaucrats for promotions it may prompt the LEO to scavenge for barley justifiable reasons to confiscate any guns that they find. For example, the Mason Count Sheriff has been quoted in the Mason County Journal stating that they confiscate all guns from all residences in which they handle a domestic dispute. Seattle's behavior has had to be corrected by the courts a few times.

Keep that in mind when Michael Bloomberg's group promotes a universal back ground check in your state.

Edit to add: I have found that the best approach to dealing with LEOs is keep it friendly and say something like I appreciate them checking on unfamiliar people moving around at odd hours. You could have to call on the same LEO for help someday.

I'm polite to everyone who doesn't earn contrary treatment by their behavior. I'm friendly to very few.

When dealing with police I say as little as is allowed by law. I conduct my life so as to have as little contact with the police as possible. You'd think that people, cops especially, would think that was a good thing. Unless your job mandates it, frequent contact with the police would tend to indicate that maybe you've got some issues with poor judgment and impulse control.

The police are not there to protect me as an individual. That's settled law. Unless I somehow acquire a bodyguard detail, anything from which I need protecting will be over by the time they show up.
