Retire the D cell maglite and get one of the new quality AA LED lights. Multiple lumen settings, lighter, and you will be happy. Even the AA rechargeable batteries will give better performance.

maybe so, but my partner likes the heft of her red 4D Maglite with 350 lumen LED bulb and 4 3AA-D adapters with Eneloops. When we go camping she can whack the bejeezus out of anything that spooks her on the way to the loo. She says the red hides the dried blood....

Great thread. My Cannon gun safe recommends Duracell & I have had problems opening it & keep having to change batteries.
Time to try RAYOVAC.

If it's a light I use a lot, then I go with rechargeable. But any light for my duty belt or in a glove box gets cr123 batteries since they last around ten years in storage.

This is my latest new light. Not only does it charge magnetically but you can stick it on anything metal, so I hang mine on the bedside lamp.

In my experience, Duracell batteries leak quite a bit. I have never had that problem with Energizer/Eveready or Rayovac. Many items I buy, from flashlights to video game controllers come with Duracells. I discard them and install Energizer/Eveready or Rayovac. Plus, it seems that Energizers last longer.

I think I have a bit of an addiction too. My other small flashlight is the TUP which is a great little light but I do like the shape of the Olight better. Guess I just couldn't get used to a square light.

My duty belt gets an Eagletac P20C2. I like that has a removable strike bezel so you can twist it off when going through TSA.

After reading this thread, I decided to check my GE LED D-cell lanterns. The one with the Duracells was fine; the other had Ray-O-Vacs and one battery out of eight was leaking. It didn't ruin the lantern because I caught it in time.
I'm a little surprised with the ROVs because it's usually the Duracells that I find leaking (sometimes while still in the package).

I have found that Amazon Basic batteries are as good as most others and cost a lot less than some of the major brands. Never had any leak unlike some Duracells I have had.
