Back quite a few years ago I went through a period of time with a noise that sounded like a alternator with a bad bearing. It finally went away.
Now, about a week ago I started having a noise in the same ear that sounds like a large engine running. Not too loud so don't bother too much. A lot better than the bad bearing.

Me too, here lately...Puzzled?

Shoot enough without hearing protection, and you too can enjoy the sound of crickets and frogs in the middle of winter....
Or run lawnmowers and chainsaws without protection.

Tinnitis. I have crickets most of the time. High blood pressure will cause it sometimes. I notice that when I eat or drink anything with excessive amounts of sugar it starts to buzz like a cicada. Alcohol and caffeine will start it up too. I'd rather have the crickets so I avoid sugar. The alcohol and caffeine... well, life is nothing if not for compromises.

My Tinnitus is normally a high pitch whine that I can easily disregard (until certain commercials come on TV , grrr), but the past couple of days there is the added joy of something that sounds like a far off helicopter. It is of a frequency that it has compromised hearing normal speech.

I had this about two years ago as well, and fortunately it went away after about a week.

I have the crickets & Locusts. It can be minimized by programmable hearing aids. It is always there as a background noise, but by keeping a radio or other pleasant noise it is not too bothersome. Night time with the hearing aids out it is hard to get back to sleep when you have to get up in the middle of the night.

Had a sudden onset of ringing in one ear with loss of most of my hearing in that ear. The next day had to leave church because the music sounded like a screeching roar in my ear. Got some ear plugs and went to see Dr. He had no clue and said he could refer me to an ear guy or try some steroids. I went with the steroids and after a course of them I was back to normal. Looked on web but could not find any idea what the problem was.

My tinnitus is a steady high pitched whistling hum, it is always there.

My hearing degraded to the point where I was issued hearing aids two years before I retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1991. I have been getting progressively more powerful hearing aids from the VA ever since.

I wish the youngsters who drive around with the super loud Bahhhh Boomahhhhhh Bahhhh stereos that vibrate all the cars at a traffic light would realize they are damaging their hearing. Hearing aids aren't fun.

Noises

mine sound like tree frogs after a rain. comes and goes. mostly comes. 44yrs in the steel mill is the culprit. none of my recreational or work at home activities contributed. that's my story and i'm sticking to it. krs :)

My left ear sounds like a swarm of locusts. I have the XM radio on most of the time so it doesn't bug me so much. I have expensive hearing aids but only wear them at work so I can hear on the telephone. At night I purposely sleep on my left side to shut off the buzzing.

Most of my hearing lost was from turbine aircraft engines, jets engines, and gunfire. has a claymore mine go off about 5 feet from my right ear the ringing never did stop ringing and buzzing, My hearing aids does help the buzzing and ringing, and I have found out that if I keep my hearing aids on all day I am able to separate the back ground noise from voices of folks I am talking to and hear the TV better.

I am so, so sorry for those of us with debilitating tinnitus, especially for those those who got it through military or war time service. I got mine through stupidity, or maybe ignorance, and for some reason it doesn't seem to be as annoying as in years past. Although I do seem to say "huh" more often than in years past. I've asked my daughter to tell me when it becomes untenable and then I will look for help.

Left ear tinnitus here. Bought on by sinusitis, I just live with it. In the winter it sounds like I am sitting next to an air conditioner, Doc says winter allergies. Over the counter allergy meds usually fix the problem.

High ring in my right ear damaged from working in fabrication shop , loud trucks and machinery. Sometimes very faint or so loud drives me nuts, ENT Doctor said ear drum looks like a waffle nothing can be done

Turn up the mamas and papas, grab a buster, concrete saw or rock drill. But the hair of the dog don't work in this instance. When you get out the shower use a finger tip to create a "plunger" for your ear and pull some of that **** out. Ain't a cure, but seems to help. Like others, sinus troubles and high blood pressure make it worse.
