Early snow

Upper 50s today in Pueblo (southern Colorado) with chilly rain. Lots of snow visible in the mountains a half-hour drive away. I expect even more anytime.

For perspective, we have experienced 21 straight years of drought conditions. This year has been restorative, leaving the prairie and foothills greener and healthier than we have seen in a long time. I'm not going to complain unless it gets truly ugly.

In the high country I've experienced snow on Labor Day and on the 4th of July. My truck is stocked with sleeping bags, blankets, my old Carhartt overalls, some good boots, a small stove, and other basic survival gear, just in case I am ever caught in a storm or stranded.

Trail Ridge?

I really don't remember., but it probably was on US34..I was there with my wife for a series of meetings at NCAR. I had nothing to do one day when she was in meetings so I drove up to the mountains.....WOW!

As a skier, I say - think snow! My ski trip to Vail is mid-December, so I hope the Colorado snow keeps coming.

Today I was on a backcountry road in the Cascade mountains near Mt Rainier where it was 52 degrees at 5400-foot elevation. Back at my home near sea level the temperature was in the high 70's. It's probably going to be a while before ski season starts at 3000-feet.

Our first snow of the year was in January.
Sorry! We had basically nothing last winter, but the Almanacs say this winter is gonna be lots of snow and cold. I never knew there were two Almanacs but there are for some weird reason. I got new windows Wednesday and they block the heat of the Sun real well as advertised.
That may be an issue for Angel this winter as she seeks out the sun on the floor for some warm rug or wood. But maybe we get Halloween over with first? Peace!

snow is a spectator sport... and I don't want to see it until after Thanksgiving.... today I was at a racetrack & car show... it was sunny & 76... perfect day... I have special friends...
