EDC and Optics?

I'm of the age where eyesight is a lot less sharp than it used to be and I find the use of magnification for my work to be beneficial. For my EDC, I do not want an optic, I'll stick with low profile, snag resistant, damage resistant iron sights. Odds are real good that if I ever had to use my EDC for serious social purposes, I would not even see a sight and I would be close enough that any sort of sight would be superfluous.

Got my 365 back from Maple Leaf. Figured I'd share some pics.

I venture to say a laser would be more practical, for me at least. I don't think in a self defense situation I'd have the time to draw and bring the pistol to eye level to get a site picture. With a laser, I'd draw and turn it on and the pistol hits where the dot is. More or less. Besides, a perp. may pause to rethink his actions seeing a red dot on his torso.
Of course others being more skilled may differ.
Just my 2 Lincoln's.

Have you ever used a red laser in bright sunlight? They aren't very visible especially on light colored targets. Don't forget about your sights.

I am unwilling to invest the expense, time and practice a red dot or laser will require. I simply practice with what I have and adjust accordingly.
YMMV

The amount of practice would be about the same as it would require for you to get good with your carry pistol. This is code speak for "I hardly practice anyway."

I have a P365 with the standard night sights and a P365X with the night sights and a Romeo Zero.

The X's night sights work fine through the Romeo Zero should it be DOA when SHTF.

Either works for carry and it's easy to find holsters that will fit both.

Follow up shots, as in double taps or Mozambiques, are quicker with a red dot after a bit of practice.

My son carries a Sig Sauer P320 RXP Xcompact off duty. I like this gun because the silencer height night sights are usable if the red dot malfunctions. When I shot it, I brought the gun up to use the sights and the red dot was right there. The dot makes for more accurate shot placement and you get a faster sight picture on target. JMO
I have shot guns with normal height sights and it takes longer to find the red dot (slower getting on target) and if the optics don't work for some reason as mentioned above, your only option is to point shoot. I believe in Murphy's Law. Again JMO.
I believe all guns that will accept night sights should have them, its the only way to go unless you can get the higher sights that function with a red dot.

If optics help you acquire your target better then more power to ya.

My dad advocated point shooting and I have focused on that for navel engagements since the late 60's. It has become second nature like pointing my finger.
