I'm going to cite a passage from the Neal & Jinks book. I wondered about its accuracy. Pp.237 "May 22, 1944: Change extractor thread from S&W .186-47 to N.S.-2 .186-47 (old standards worn out and cannot be duplicated)". It don't know if the 47 tip is a typo, or if it's correct. My gauge consists only of even numbers. 48 tpi is close, but I can't tell if it's right-on or not.
I hope somebody can give a definitive answer, because I've wondered about that question for a long time.

right, 3/16 ths - 47 or 48 . where in the heck do you find that, let alone right and left ? I do a lot of caliber swaps and have run into some tight, and or damaged leads. Hate to throw any thing out. guess I will have to buy a bunch more. I could probably make them on the lathe, but they are so dang small !!!! thanks for all the replies. Anybody knows of a source of tap or die, I would be thankful.

Ordered encyclopedia, but wont help die problem. The only copy I have of Jinks book is the one in my 25-3 case. Never opened it . Is this the book you refer to? Located a BA 6 die 47.5 threads but diameter is to small.

found 10-48 die and tap @ Victor Machine, cheap to. Well we will see in a few days if its right.
Post your results. Remember, after 1960, pretty much all of the models have left hand threads.
