Emergency Exits

During big storms... many thousands without power... we've been 6-8-10 days without. When they are down to the last 200 customers and our power's still out! Our 6500 is not whole house, but will carry selected loads enough to get by. My Honda came with a huge damn battery... I've got a lawn tractor battery in it now... only a 1 cylinder.

My buddy found he needed to upsize his big propane tanks because the big outage started near the end of his monthly refill cycle.

Hmmm. A starter and a battery. Batteries can be swapped but I'd have a spare starter on the shelf.

The other aspect of noting exits beside egress is that is where some shooter have gotten into a bldg. We all like to watch the front door but knowing where the rear exits are is important for that reason.

Most emergency exits cannot be accessed from the outside. So if you hear an alarm, somebody ran out the door with an arm load of merchandise or they let someone in.

The front door cannot always be watched.

I always try to sit in buildings like theaters or houses of worship where I can egress quickly or stand and fight. Sometimes it's ahrd to do but at least I try to be alert as much as possible.

I am SO glad to hear positive comments about Generac - as many of y'all know, my old house had a monster fire last year and now the new one is almost complete. A Generac is on the list to be added before I move in.

Counting doors will be added to my mental security measures! Gracias!

Depends. The Aurora shooter blocked the ee door, the went out & came in that way. All you need is a piece of tape & many exits are not on an alarm.

There are lots of ways to defeat locks and latches. Too many to list. Yes, a piece of tape or a plastic card taped over strike...

Theaters here used to... maybe still do... encourage movie goers to use the emergency exits to leave quicker... and PS not sneak into other shows. In that case, there can be no alarm on the exits. WOW!
