Just wondering what everyone thinks is acceptable. My S&W 686-3 with 8 3/8" barrel has .006" barrel to cylinder gap and .010" gap when I push the cylinder back. I guess that's .004" of end shake. Should I just leave it or should I shim the cylinder? Or have the barrel set back?
I had a 629 rebarreled by Clements and I can't get a .004" {that's the smallest I have} in there and it has no end shake.

It definitely needs to have the end shake trimmed into spec (which is .000 - .001")

Try a .002" shim and remeasure. I believe there are also .001" shims available or there used to be.

Aren't .001" shims, never were. Used to be .006" shims which were discontinued.

Thanks guys. I ordered the 002 from Midway. I'll see how that works out.

I have seen .001 shims, they may have been for the crane to frame shimming but they were .001".

Got the Power Custom cylinder bearings today. 2 of the .002 did the job. No end shake at all and ended up with a B/C gap of .007. I could use Yoke Bearings to tighten that but I'll shoot it first.
