Over the past week I have had about 15 incoming calls on my cell phone from 850-862-2292. If I answer it (don't always have my glasses with me) it sounds like a dang fax machine or just beeps until I hang up. If I don't answer it will go to my voice mail and leaves a message which is either beeps or sounds like a fax.

The phone number is out of Fort Walton Beach, FL and I believe it is provided by EMBARG FLORIDA INC.

It's getting really annoying it. A I being charged "minutes" for the messages left by a fax? I sat on hold for a half hour trying to talk to some one at Customer Svc of EMBARQ, but got tired and hung up. Can I call NEXTEL and get them to blcok this number from my cell?

thanks for any and all advice,
Lee

I am not sure about Nextel, but I know Verizon can and will block numbers.
It should be the same with Nextel.
Yes, you are being charged on your minutes as long as the call lasts.
Another option is to fax a short letter to the fax at that number telling them to quit calling.

On "land lines" you can have the call blocked but I don't know about cells, but I do know if you switch to CellularSouth, you can have voice mail show up 8 days after it was made.

And I bet it is fax machine someone has set the speed dial to your cell #. Perhaps if you faxed their number from your fax, or a friend's, and had a big print "This is the Bay County S.W.A.T. Priority message line. Call this number again and there will be a dozen ski masked, black jacketed heavily armed SWAT members in your face! You have been warned!Have a Nice Day!"

I have been getting calls on my cell phone also where some idiots are trying to send a fax to me. I fax 15 pages back to them saying "STOP TRYING TO SEND A FAX TO 408-XXX-XXXX." The fax machine that I use will store the 15 pages until it can send the fax. After getting the 15 pages, they seem to get the messege.

Fax the cover sheet with your request on it, then fax 14 pages of black/dark paper. It should stop fairly quickly. The black paper ties up their fax machine for a looooong time and runs their toner bill through the roof. Not that I've ever done this or anything....

I had that prob with Verizon, if it came through at all, if your being sarcastic.

I think sarcastic might not be strong enough. Ironic and disgruntled also come to mind... Don't want to hijack the OP but cell service, actually the lack thereof, really chaps my buns!

Back to the OP! I like the idea of lots of black paper. Our unit at work uses some type of single pass film cartridge and they are expensive!

FAX MACHINE?????? I'm on dial-up internet and usually don't connect at anything faster than 26.4Kbs.

I'm not impOtent enough to need/use a fax machine.

I just want the calls to stop. I got three of them last Friday while I was trying to fish in the gulf!

I'll call NEXTEL in the morning and see if they will help me.

My cell phone LG Model CU720 in settings has a feature in the call folder named Call Reject.
I put the number that I don't want to receive calls from in that and it disconnects the call.

Who is your service provider?

I just got off the phone with Nextel Customer Service and speaking with a supervisor named Mike and he said they (Sprint/Nextel) don't have the technology to block a single number. I asked them to set me up so that I got credited with a refund for every second that I was charged for the fax that keeps calling. Said they couldn't do that, BUT that he could give me a $10 credit towards my nex phone bill!

I told him it's not about the money. It's about the minutes and the danged aggrevation of getting the call and voice messages. He said he was very sorry, but the best he could do was a $10 credit. I said okay, but if I keep getting the calls and keep getting charged for them I would let all three phone under my account be cancelled.

That's just unaceptable to me. Got to be a better way.

Send a fax to the number, make it black pages as mentioned.

You do not need a fax machine to do it, just a computer and phone line. Fax connect speed is just 14.4, so your equipment should work fine.

Your computer probably already has fax software installed, just look for it. If not, there are plenty of free fax programs around, I use Bitware.

Just makd a totally black image and save it as a .bmp file. It will fax just fine.

make the image full paper size and pring (in small white lettering) "Stop calling this number"

Make a dozen of the images and send them all at once.

They will get the message

That number is the FAX number for Design/Build Systems. http://www.designbuildsys.com/contact.aspx

Maybe make a call to their main number 850 862-4212 explaining the situation? Sounds like someone transposed numbers in another FAX number that they are trying to reach.

Thanks 41,
I'll be on the phone in a matter of seconds. Thanks for digging deeper than I could.

Appreciate it,.

Talked to a really sweet lady and she apologized for any inconvenience and would find out who in the office was dailing my cell and "put a stop to it" today.
