Many many years ago while on a Guadalupe River canoe trip my wife’s purse, which contained her wallet, along with another lady’s purse were purloined from my truck while we were ferrying canoes across the river for take out. We reported the theft to the local sheriff’s office, cancelled the credit cards and believed that would be the end of it. The only thing we regretted losing was a gold heart and chain I had given my wife before we were married. The chain broke that morning and she put the locket in the coin pocket of her wallet.
A couple of years later as I came home from work, I got the mail from the mailbox which contained an envelope from an unknown person in Universal City, Texas. The note inside stated that the writer had been rock hounding up a dry creek bed about five miles from where the theft occurred. He found my wife’s wallet on the ground, her old drivers license in the wallet, the credit cards fanned out, the gold locket still in the coin pocket with only the cash missing. The gentleman wanted to be sure we were still at the same address before mailing the contents back to us. Needless to say we were excited to get the locket back. Other than weather wear from two years of laying on the rocks, everything was in pretty good shape. There are still men of honesty and integrity in this old world.
Be safe and blessed.
