I'm in the hunt for a 5906 but I need some help in knowing what to look for in a quality used gun. I'm an old revolver guy, and I know how to evaluate a used revolver, but what should I look for when inspecting a used 5906? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

At least a field stripping would be in order. Look for unusual wear in the rails and around the barrel lug and co-responding cut out in the underside of the slide.

When you look down at the top of the trigger area of the field stripped pistol, make sure the Trigger Play Spring is not broken. Some have posted pics of this area. It's an easy thing to break, and a PITA to replace, I know, I had to replace one.

Check the Magazine Disconnect safety, should not shoot if Mag removed (unless some one removed it, or possibly a former cop gun), function test the de-cocker and safety. Spongy feel could just mean it's filthy.

A more random check is with the trigger back, move the slide back to see if that trips the de-cocker. I was helped out hear on another thread, and discovered the incorrect spring was installed in the slide (Firing pin safety lever spring, over the Firing pin safety lever plunger, the metal one on the right, not the plastic one on the left side), it is too strong and trips the de-cocker.

Sure others have something to add... :D
