Even Smith Tech Dept. Doesn't Know!!!!

I'm sorry if this is a tired issue, but we poor slobs in CA. need to go featureless or register our AR 15s as "assault weapons" by the end of next year, which carries lots of negatives.
I would like to remove the bullet button from my 2013 OR and 2015 Sport as a part of my featureless rebuild. Now I believe the removal of the bullet button from Smith ARs is not as easy as unscrewing the inside nut with a wrench since many have indicated it is loctited in. I've called the S&W tech line a number of times trying to get affirmation on this, but have been told many conflicting answers-not many gunsmiths or pros working in that dept.
So, I was directed to some S&W trained smiths in my area of So. Cal. who also had differing viewpoints on this issue.
Does anyone actually know for sure if the bullet buttons are glued in on the CA. versions in order to know how to attempt removal of them?

The company knows how it goes on, that doesn't mean it's shared with the techs answering the phone. There is such a thing as lawsuits.

Your best option is youtube. There are dozen of how to on removing the bullet button, and featureless rifle options.

Everything i've read is its in with loctite. Try using a soldering iron to heat up the button and soften the loctite.

There's a thread 1 page back, down towards the bottom that covers the issues people had removing the BB. Some had a little trouble, others had major issues.

Yep, I've read that thread before and also, nothing definitive as to if they glue, or what they glue with.
I just know it's a PITA. My understanding is if it is red loctite, you need at least 400 degrees to unlock the bond, about 200 or less for blue.
I ordered stainless steel BB wrenches from Mag Magnet-look stout, and will Kroil and roast the BB area with a heat gun. If that doesn't work, it's off to the gunsmith.
Gotta hand it to the punch and drill technique. That takes a steady hand and some serious gonads!

I haven't read the other thread, but I'd just drill it out and get new parts. A good drill bit and a drill press and it will come right out.

If you're anywhere near me I'll do it for free.

A slightly easier way is using a Dremmel. Push the mag lock as far as it will go with a punch from the right side. Then cut the shaft on the left side. Then the parts will just fall out.

Go to Mag-Magnet. They have a 1/4 inch drive stainless steel tool that will Absolutley do the job! Kroil 24 hours before removal, and push down on wratchet wrench and remove!
My 2013 OR had no loctite. The 2015 Sport did.
Piece of cake. Save yourselves the drama.
Now onto making them CA. legal by going featureless.
