He was charged with Aggravated Assault and sentenced to 1 yr in prison.

I've never been shot before and I hope that I never will but a man shoots you with a gun and all that he get is one year in jail? What is wrong with this court system.....

LT JL: since you show a badge on your header I am going to guess this hit by a .45 happened while on law enforcement. Does anybody know if any agency keep a national statistic on how many officers take rounds each year that are stopped by kevlar type products? It would be interesting so see how many cops lives have been saved in the past 30-35 years.

Very interesting antidotes....After 40 years in Law enforcement I saw or was involved in many strange calls, two officer involved shootings. The thing that stands out is the weird results that can occur from gun shots. A friend was killed by a 22 in the left shoulder, in an area that would not have been protected by a vest. The 22 hit the bone and trajectory sent slug into body cavity and did the deadly damage. One night while stuck on the district desk, a woman known to us as a pain in the butt, along with her crazy husband came up to the desk, she had a small wound in the center of her forehead. The wound was not bleeding at that time. she wanted her husband arrested for hitting her in the head. We called the Scout Car and had her transported to city Hospital for a check up. Results she had been shot in the middle of the forehead with a .25 the bullet didn't penetrate skull but followed her skull all the way around her head and came to rest behind her left ear, just under the skin. the ER doc took it out with a local and sent her back to the district. Did she want to prosecute? You guessed it. NO! she had sobered up and commented that she loved the ass and that was that. Two weeks later give or take a day or two she hit him in the head with a kitchen mallet made for tenderizing meat. results a head ache, and some very strange imprints in his hard head. They were from Eastern Ky. All I can say is they make them tough down there or they are all hardheaded. Bullets have no conscience nor do they always act as advertised. I guess when it's you time not much helps or hinders the results. As a youngster I was shot with what could only be called a flesh wound, didn't even get the normal 5 days off. Much later in my career I was darned near killed in a plane crash on a normal fugitive transfer, spent the next year with 8 operations and was off for a year....Went back to duty a year to the day. ...Go Wonder In a long career Muni, State and Federal I have seen people with horrendous looking gunshot wounds that lived, and then the opposite where the wound didn't look bad at first impression and they didn't make it to the hospital. Law Enforcement in my opinion is probably the most fascinating job in the world. you seen humanity at their worst, and at their best....But what the heck in the 60s what better place for a former Marine. Beats standing in a production line IMHO......God Bless

Manufacturer: Daisy.

Caliber: .177 (BB)

Place shot: Lower leg.

Assailant: Myself

Odd thing is, after I told mom about what happened, I couldn't find that gun for months. Weird, huh.

Having been shot by a friend who shot me with a 10/22 while we were squirrel hunting, I can tell you that a 22lr will put a hurt on you in a bad way in a hurry. I asked him why he wanted to do me in, and was it a "Shoot, Shovel, Shut-Up" situation, but he swore that it was a ricochet. Slug did not penetrate but left a hell of a nice purple/blue/black bruise on my chest where the bullet hit me below the pectoral.

Yes, I was shot in Jan. 1979 by an suspect armed with a Colt AR-15/M-16 .223 rifle. I was a young city police officer working patrol and was ambushed by this male suspect who wanted to kill a cop. I was shot twice in the left chest, twice in the stomach and once in the left upper arm. The suspect fired a total of 19 rounds at me and I did shoot back with my duty handgun, a S & W Model 25-2 .45 ACP revolver (6 rounds). He fled the scene when I was shooting back at him (Yes, I missed him). After the shooting was over, I was Medi-flighted to a hospital and they were able to save my life. I was off work for 11 months recovering from my wounds and than returned to full patrol duty. I have remained a LEO and I am just entering my 34th year in law enforcement (I may retire some day...).
The first shot that hit me was to my left chest area (about an inch from my heart) and it felt like someone had hit me hard with a full swing baseball bat.....(yes, it hurt like hell...). I still have 3 bullets in my body...It is not something I would recommend to anyone....but with a strong will to live you can survive a bad shooting.....

I was shot by a red ryder BB gun....and it hurt

When I was 12 or so the neighborhood bully a guy named Luis happened to be down by the creek where I was looking for crayfish to use for bait later that day at the local lake. He was carrying a Red Ryder bb gun and shooting at everything he saw I thought I I remained motionless behind the bushes he would not see me and just pass me by.....nope...he saw me and started to aim at me . I remember yelling at him not to shoot me,and being the jerk he was bam! I managed to turn and catch one in the side and it hurt like the dickens, I remember cursing at him and he cocked his BB gun again and Bam! another one on the other side below my arm. That was it! I had enough. I was so mad I didn't care I ran and jumped across the creek and up the hill where he was and a fight ensued,We wrestled over the rifle before he can get another shot off since he had cocked it as I ran up the creek cliff side to him. I remember in the struggle I managed to get the rifle pointed to his head and I pulled the trigger as we both had our hands on the rifle and the BB gun went off shooting him in the face entering his cheek. He let go of the rifle and I clubbed him with it till the stock broke and he ran home crying and limping. He told his mom and the police came.Fortunately for me some kids saw the whole thing and told the whole story. He was taken to juvenile hall and was no longer the Bully ever again. He was 16 and I was 12 almost 13. He moved away to a different town and we all were so happy.

I have gotten nailed a few times at cowboy matches with pieces of lead from bullets which 'splash' back from the steel targets.

The most amazing 'being shot' incident occurred not to me but to a good friend of mine during the Korean War. This guy got hit with 5 bullets from a captured .50 cal machine gun being fired by the North Koreans while he was storming a beach with a bunch of Marines. He was in the Navy but volunteered to go along. One bullet blew half of his foot off, one went through his scrotum, two more went through his belly area and one through his arm. He eventually had to have the lower leg amputated because of gangrene but after a couple of years in the hospital married his nurse and raised 3 kids. He was one tough son of a gun and I was proud to have him consider me as a friend.

Navy Corpsmen were with all Marines in the field, they were brave, dedicated and considered part of the Corps. At one time when attached to the Fleet Maire Corps they had a choice of wearing Marine uniforms with their navy rank, We were proud when they did. Doc was a designation we proudly gave them on duty or on liberty we considered them part of the Corps and to this day they are eligible to join the Marine Corps League...God Bless them all.....Semper Fi

Well my story is a ricochet as well, I posted this a couple of years ago.

Was at an indoor range, and the fellow next lane to me was having problems with the two (2) 380's he was shooting. They would not cycle, and he was having to clear the slide manually each round.

I asked him what he thought the problem was and he told me he thought it was the crap ammo he had purchased at the range.

It was Ficchoci(sp?) brand, Italian, and I told him it was normally good stuff and maybe he had a bad lot.

Time came to clean up and I was bent down, in my lane, picking up brass and I hear him shoot and about a heartbeat later I had a "thump" right between the eyes.

I looked down and picked up a bullet, completely intact, nor rifling marks or anything, and noted it looked like a 32 caliber round.

I went to the next lane where he was still having problems with his 380's and looked closer at the box and turned out is was 32 ACP not 380.

I theorize that there was just enough force to push the bullet down the barrel and it bounced and thumped me.

It left a pretty good bruise and I had a terrific time relating this story but I was very lucky that it hit me in the head.

Well sorta, it was at an early IPSC match where someone thought a heavy steel plate at twenty yards would make a good stop plate. Was standing behind and right of the shooter running the stopwatch, after he hit the stop plate I saw something twinkeling in the sun comeing at my head fast from downrange. Just had time to turn my head to the left and was starting a duck when about one half of a .45 200gr SWC entered the side of my face, entered my mouth through the cheek and wound up on my tounge. It chipped a tooth on the way past, but I got to admit I did have a bit of fun spitting the bullet out into my hand and asking to whom did this bullet belong to?! (I react to stress and such with humor) No real damage other than the tooth and a small scar on my face. It was a learning experience.

So much for the stopping power of a .45acp!:D

I have been shot at, but without effect.

Here's this: "There is nothing quite so exhilarating as to be shot at without effect." It's from Sir Winston Churchill's, "My Early Life". He came under fire on what was then the Northwest Frontier of British-ruled India. In fact, he braved heavy fire to rescue a native soldier, and was Mentioned in Despatches for gallantry.

I got shot alot by my brother and his pump pellet/bb gun when I was about 8. I got him back plenty with my daisy lever action bb gun though. It all started when I was setting up the cans we were shooting and my brother thought it would be funny to shoot me in the foot. Well, the bb ricocheted off the end of my shoe and went straight up my left nostril! I blew it with all the blood out and it was on! I got him a bunch as he was trying to run for his life and we ended up about 20 feet away both behind cover. The fight ended when I poped up and caught a bb about a 1/4 inch below the left eye!

Next I was shooting some hand loads from my Winchester 94 ae trapper 45 colt at a pine tree. All of a sudden I feel this big whomp in the chest. Felt like I had been punched. Not sure what caused the ricochet, but it was deifinitely mine.

I was enjoying myself one sunny day at the range, shooting steel targets at 15 yards with W-W whitebox .45 ACP 230 gr FMJ. Apparently, I hit the target stand instead of the target, and the bullet ricocheted back at me, hitting me on the outside of my left ankle. It didn't penetrate the skin, but did tear a hole in my trouser leg and sock. It didn't break any bones, but left a raised welt about the size of a half dollar. I limped off the range, lucky that I hadn't really been hurt.

Yeah, but the embarassing question is did anybody see it?
