Ever checked how far you walk when cutting your grass?

A recent back surgery has laid me up so this yr my wife is mowing. She enjoys it. Mixes a fruity vodka drink, puts her ear pods in and away she goes on the Kubota. She even does my shooting range. Problem is this time a yr, once a y is not enough, it's every 4-5 days. We probably mow 2 out of the 5 acres we have. Rest is wooded

I start the weekend Friday afternoon on the tractor, often with adult beverage in hand. :)

Transitions me from office to weekend mode.

With step counter on my iphone turned on I checked and had taken 727 steps and got on my zero turn mower, cut for an hour and half checked counter again and had 3468 steps. Go figure.

I look at mowing my lawn this way: Step 1. I'll continue to mow it myself using a gas-powered push mower as long as I can. It's a good workout and only takes me about 45 minutes and supplements my 3 days a week at the gym. Step 2 will be a riding mower and Step 3 will be using a lawn service like most of my lazy neighbors.

I mow about 4 acres. The vast majority using a 61" Ferris zero turn.

My yard was once farmland and had multiple terraces that the zero turn doesn't do well. A year or two ago using my subcompact Massey front end loader and blade I took the shortest terrace down. Found it was mostly rocks and creek gravel under the thin layer of dirt.

I ain't messing with another without a much larger tractor and a dump truck. Therefore I ain't messing with another one.

I do terraces, along the roadside and trim with a 21" walk behind mower. I don't know how many steps I take, but I'm sure it doesn't take as many as it did just a few years ago for my stamina to be sapped. I keep going till I get it done though.

I've done the lawn my entire life. I was my Dad's lawn boy until I left home. He go himself a top of the line Sears lawn tractor.

Both my children are female, so I never expected them to do lawns.

The yard I have now, I'll mow until I can't. I'm afraid of inexperience being a threat to anyone attempting my yard on a riding mower of any type.

People ride by and see me mowing the terraces or near the road and think I do the entire yard with the push mower. I've heard stories that I may be a bit teched for using a push mower on all that yard. 😳

Mine got a little too high to push mow.

Mowed my lawn over lunch, never paid attn to miles but the trusty apple watch showed 1.6 miles when done. Not a big lot (1/3 acre maybe) but no trees are anything taking up space.
I dont mind doing the lawn (yet), its a way for me to get in some exercise and I like seeing the yard when completed.
Note I share non of these positive feelings when it comes to using the snowblower lol.

"I resemble that pic." My neighbor comes over and does the "lawny bits" around the house with her Husqvarna ride-on (a trade for me cleaning out the barn with my mini-excavator) but the rest of the property looks like yours, so the next spell of dry weather will see me hooking up the brush cutter to my tractor before it becomes "as high as an elephant's eye."
