I probably ate more tree rat and rabbit than beef steak until I was 16 or 17 years old. We ate lots of game and fish that we caught, not because we were dirt poor, which we were, but because it was GOOD !
I think fried rabbit puts any piece of beef to shame to this day. Fried Quail with some cream gravy, homemade biscuits, hot buttered rice and some garden fresh white half runners is fit for a king.
Snappin' turtle, pare boiled then batter fried was something to look forward to.
