Ever given away a S&W?

You are, to be sure. And your daughter has good sense. We've never regretted our move to Alaska nearly 30 years ago.

If your daughter is going to be out and about much up here, you need to give her a Model 29! The 9mm won't impress the big bears very much! :)

I should add that I love the XD. But when I'm hunting in bear country, there is either a Super Blackhawk or a Model 29 in my shoulder holster.

JP@AK- Agee that a 9mm won't impress bears, reason she also has my slug gun. Her & hubby know better to irritate a bear:-)

This is one of the best threads I have read in quite awhile.

About two months ago a friend and I were looking things over and my parents stopped by. My dad picked up a Colt 4th gen Detective and marveled over how well it felt compared to every other hand gun he has handled. Knowing he would not buy one for himself I started looking for one. Just missed one local two weeks ago, I got one off gunbroker on christmas day. Waiting for it to arrive to my FFL next week. Cant wait to clean it and surprise him with it. This thread renewed what a great idea it would be to do this for him.

On a side note, a while back my six year old son (only child) said, I cant wait til all these are mine. I'll take good care of them and clean them like you do. Made me smile.

Yes, I gave my 12 year old son a 15-22 for Christmas last year (2011) n he absolutely loves it. (So does my wife ;-) )
It makes a great family gun! +1 For S&W

Not a S&W, but I gave a Springfield Amory 1911 .45 stainless to a fine young man when he took a commission in the US Army. Had his name and the date engraved on the slide.
Hope he never has to use it, but if he does it's got to be better than a 9mm Berretta.

I hope that this Christmas you were able to remember the good times that you shared with your father. Sounds like he was a great American hero at a national level, BUT more particularly at a FAMILY level. That is a rare combination. The world would be a much better place if we had more fathers who are FAMILY heroes.
Thank you, Richard. He was all of that, and more. I try hard to live up to his name.
The very best to you and your family.
Jack

After 9/11 I gave my father the best S&W revolver I had at the time.
A 3" 686-4 and he still has it.
He did not own a firearm and I wanted him to have the best that I could give him.
