after the events of last friday, i was in a very civil discussion with a friend on facebook. he had the basic "if guns are there, these things would not happen" premise. i found a few articles on line showing the opposite. his come back to that was calling my examples "false equivalence arguments". they were F.E.A.'s because even though the items(car, kitchen knife, baseball along with boiling water) were used to kill, the primary purpose of these items was not to kill.

he still failed to make the connection, although it gave me a little more insight into the mind as to why these kinds of arguments don't work with.
