At one time they had a marketing plan to call them Swamp bunnies to make them seem more appetizing. When 22 ammo was cheap they were fun to shoot at

Since the bounty is *reported* to be only 5$ maybe you should switch your .22 off of full auto and make a few bucks....
Just say'n

To all of my Forum friends:

I am surrounded by the nutria hordes but managing to hold out in a defensive perimeter on about 1/2 acre in Cameron Parish -- I can hear their big yellow incisors gnash as they try to chew thru the barricades.
Please send all of your .22 LR, .380, 9 mm, .357 mag, .41 mag, .45 ACP ammo to me and I will hold the line -- otherwise these monsters will overcome our last line of defense and wind up in Texas, in the beautiful state of Mississippi, and beyond, and horror of all horrors, may actually invade Washington DC. -- donations of bourbon, rum, and good scotch will also be accepted (to keep your defenders agile at night, of course) -- word is out that the wily nutria have acquired night vision gear and several Scud missiles, so send ammo and liquor quickly.:)

Can you save a few for NYC and Albany, NY? :D

$5.00 I cannot believe. I grew up in south LA, south of New Orleans, and there were millions of nutria. For a very short time there was a bounty of 0.50 cents on them which was a bonanza for us kids. I think they ran out of money pretty quick. Anyway, they are already in TX, MS, AL, GA and FL that I have personally seen. About the only natural enemies they have are alligators and people. They are like kudzu and water hyacinth. Here to stay.

And why are they here...?

Some of you other old guys must remember when nutria were being promoted as a get rich quick opportunity. This is from the April, 1958 Popular Science.

Think miniature Claymores! ;)

Good luck with your battle. If there is any bourbon left in the morning I will ship it out at first light but right now it's not looking good for you!

Combat fatigue has set in and I am remiss in reporting that .40 cal is indeed a round of choice for dispatching the furry hordes -- yes, yes, please send 40 cal and may the Fur-ce be with you.:D

OK! Colonel, 40 headed your way. I can't believe that someone hasn't offered up some kind of recipe...Nutria Chili(with or without beans)? Slow Smoked Nutria? Nutria Stir Fry? That would be another way to cut back their numbers.:eek: With broccoli on the side of course!
