Excellent column on gun control, with statistics

How often have you been persuaded about something controversial from reading a photocopied article in your doctor's office or while having your oil changed?

It's actually doubtful how effective much advertising is. And this isn't advertising so much as debate/propaganda.
If we wanted an ad campaign, that wouldn't be hard to create. Go look at the posters of Oleg Volk, typically middle class, younger men and especially women facing down menacing attackers. It's very appealing and effective. You can find them mostly at a_human_right.org
Yours truly and his kids are featured in a few of them.

SWAG.
I remember reading stats for TN permit holders and how many got revoked. I just extrapolated from that. Whatever it is, it happens but not a whole lot.

"If one looks at all revocations, the revocation rate is 0.29%. If you substract off the one case where the problems appear to be due to the instructor not keeping the forms properly, the revocation rate is 0.2%. Interestingly, a huge portion of the remaining revocations took place in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland). The revocation rate outside of Cuyahoga County was only 0.13 percent. Were permit holders more troublesome in Cuyahoga County or was there a different standard that the local sheriff tried to use to determine revocations?"
John Lott's Website: Ohio: "Few conceal-carry permits revoked, records show"

"Since 1995 over 57,000 concealed carry permits have been issued to Utah residents.
Over the eight year period, some 900 permits have been revoked for various reasons, including alcohol, subject to a protective order filed in a routine divorce case, and some more serious crimes. This is about 1.6% of people who passed a background check and then later committed stupid or illegal acts." USSC Concealed Carry

Florida, which has issued more carry permits than any state has issued 1.36 million permits, but revoked only 165 (0.01%) due to gun crimes by permit-holders. http://www.gs2ac.com/flyers/2009/20090126-ComcealedCarryPermitsAreLifeSavers_RepCliffStearnsFL.pdf
