I'm a big fan of the extended slide release on a 1911. I have a few from Fusion and Wilson Combat. Fusions are hit or miss as to if they will hold slide open. Wilson's are great and should be for what you pay. But, they don't make one for 10mm that I can find. I'm currently looking for a polished stainless one for a Dan Wesson in 10 mm. Ordered a few from CDNN, they seem to work but they look painted dull grey. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

If they look painted, try buffing off the paint. Maybe it might be stainless with a grey film left over from the manufacturing process?

My question is: When did slide releases for a 1911 in 10mm become different from 1911 in 45ACP?

Have you taken a good one that works from a 45 and compared it to your 10mm? That is a part that should interchange on all 1911's.

Concerning the grey one, try buffing the side that is against the frame, that way if there is a problem, it won't show.

I hope the current crop of extended releases is better than the crop 40 odd years ago. I never saw one where the shaft would pass the GI NO GO gauge.

About any difference between .45 and 10 mm-the projection that engages the magazine floorplate to lock the slide open may be different.
