Extractor Pin Removal

I'm dealing with my old school M&P full size 1.0 9mm here. I thought I prepared myself from reading the horror stories, but I Iwasnt at all prepared. My blood pressure is through the roof dealing with this thing. It's feels like it's welded in place. I've bent 3 punches and broke a 4th. This is for the solid extractor roll pin. I heard the pins that were hollow in the middle were a piece of cake....not these though. Suggestions....please.

Claw of the extractor broke off. I was like this is gonna be an easy fix. silly me

If you can do without your M&P for a few weeks, send it back to S&W. They should repair it for free under their lifetime service policy.

Thx....that's gonna be my last resort. I've heard some horror stories of their TA time. It's such an easy job......if I can just get that pin to drive out. I have another punch being delivered tomorrow. If I break that punch I'm going to send it off to the mothership.

I used a sight pusher to remove mine. Forum member epj was able to provide the proper size pin. A little penetrating oil and the sight pusher worked great.

Try soaking it with penetrating oil and then use the correct size roll pin punch which has a little dimple on the end. Regular flat tip punches have a tendency to collapse the hollow roll pin and then enlarge and damage it making it harder to get out. Mayhew makes excellent small diameter roll pin punches and also all of the other types.

I believe the OP said it's a solid pin?

First, apply a good penetrant to the pin and let it work a t least a couple of hours. WD40 is not penetrating oil! Second, beginning with the largest punch that will fit the pin hole, then shorten it to about 1/8" making a starter punch. Third, use a heavy enough hammer!!! Too many people use hammers that are way too light, and then strike the pin too many times causing it to upset (Rivet) within the hole. If the pin you are trying to remove doesn't move on the first strike you are either using too light a hammer, or not being assertive enough! Lots of luck.

i'm confused [nothing new]......is it a solid or coiled roll pin? my M&P Body Guard has coiled [hollow] roll pin.
