Does anyone object to my joining this fine group of 2nd amendment supporters?

1978 was the last time I had a Ar style firearm in my hands with the M16A1 when I was in the employment of Uncle Sam.

That changed recently with the purchase of the M&P15-22, and the layaway of the M&P15.

Went to the range yesterday and put about 200 rounds thru the 22. I had about 3 or 4 failures to eject or chamber.

I know some ammo just doesn't want to perform in certain guns, but in this case I have no idea which ammo was causing the problems, because I have three or four different brands and the mags were preloaded.

Next time I will pay more attention to which brands I'm using.

In the mean time can some of you guys give your experinces
on failure to eject or load rates?
Thanks

Here are my stats...

CCI Mini-Mag 40g CPRN - 300 rounds / 0 failures

CCI Tactical - 375 rounds / 1 failure

Federal Champion 36g CPHP - 190 rounds / 0 failures

Remington Golden Bullet - 525 rounds / 2 failures

Winchester M-22 - 440 rounds / 3 failures

Total: 1830 rounds / 6 failures (.33%)

I've had a couple rounds that faile to load each time I've been to the range (twice so far) and was using CCI ammo.

I don't know if it was the way the round was seated in the mag or what, but in every case where I had a malfunction the round got hung up in the mag and wouldn't seat into the chamber so it got bent.

Off hand, I think I shot 300 rounds or so.

Most of my shooting is Federal Champion, with a few hundred rounds of CCI Tactical. Total problems - maybe two dozen in 10k.

I broke my 15-22 in using CCI MiniMags and Stingers. Plus or minus 300 rounds, no problems whatsoever. Since then I have tried the CCI Tacticals and Winchester 555's, no problems. Based on what I have had success with so far, I see no need to try "other brands". I'm good! :D

New range session today.

50 Federal Spitfire 31g HP/2 Failures
50 Winchester 36g HP/2Failures
100 Federal 40g SP/2Failures

Maybe one day I can find something this gun likes.

The little manual that came with the gun mentions CCI as the brand they recommend FWIW.

Did you clean the gun before you went to the range for the first time? When I bought mine they told me to clean it before taking it to the range the first time. I did and out of thousands of rounds only 1 golden bullet didnt fire. I'm new to firearms but they told me that from the factory they put oil and other stuff to keep them from rusting while they are setting. Might not be the problem but I thought I would mention it. I have used just about every kind of ammo in mine

I was having a few failures when I first started shooting, than one day when I was loading my mags noticed a pattern in the way the rounds were staggered, than looked back at a few mags already loaded and noticed some were not. I read up on here and low-and-behold found out that they are, in fact, supposed to be staggered. I paid more attention to this and haven't had a problem since. While each specific rifle does like certain brands better, this might be something to look at.

Actually my manual recommends 7 different brands and I was shooting one of them and thats the Winchester Super X.

Yes I did.

I was able to pick up a box of CCI mini-mag yesterday and will try them next time I go.

Thanks for everyones response.

I really don't pay much attention to anything goofy within the first couple hundred rounds. I would be curious to hear an update after you have some more break-in with recommended ammo.

I have seen this referenced several times on this forum and I have never had this problem, or even seen it at the range. I pay absolutely no attention to how the rounds sit in the mag and I have had less than a handful of problems in over 7K rounds. Most of which I attribute to weak rounds that don't cycle the gun properly. I now use my Black Dog 50 round drum mag about 80% of the time and have not encountered any issues with it. I am not saying it isn't an issue, only that I have had no problems at all.

The first thing to do would be to shoot at least 500 rounds.
Then stone & maybe polish the rails and clean everything with FrogLube or some other quality CLP.
Clip 2 coils off the bolt hold spring.
Shoot another 500 or 1000 rounds.
Our even shoots Rem. GB with no problem now.

Ya I've read of others not having the issue either. I just chock it up to my unlucky-ness. It's that way with everything in my life lol. After reading others not having this issue, I played around with the stagger and was able to replicate my failures a few times. I think I'm going to do as Tacticool and a couple others have suggested and do some polishing here and there and see if it helps. Might help the problem of mine being such a picky eater as well.

Only FTF issues I've run into so far in somewhere in the neighborhood of 6.5-7K rounds was either when I was attempting to use an aftermarket mag or the staggering was screwy in the stock mags. As a pratice when reloading I now make sure each round is canted to alternating sides of the mag and if not, pull a bit of tension off of the follower and give the back of the mag a slight tap. This will usually line things up. Probably had around 8 or 9 FTFs total.

Only FTEs I've had were when I was using a strap on bag style brass catcher designed for .223/5.56 and had a back up previously ejected casings causing the problem.

I think I am slightly lucky though as my 15-22 has seemed to cycle just about everything I've fed it w/o complaints (although bulk Win Super X seems to have a pretty high rate of duds), haven't tried any Remington though.

New range session today.

Cleaned it and oiled the bolt and rails real good before I left this morning.

100 rounds of CCI mini-mag 36 g HP. I'm very happy so say that I had 0 failures.

That made my day.:D
