I thought I would report the fast turn around that I got from S&W after sending my 586 in for the FP bushing recall. They recieved my gun last Tuesday (10th), and I got it back today
(18th). Pretty darn quick and at no cost to me. Very impressive service from the people at Smith!

Cliff: That's great news. We sure hear all the bad stories. I think your news will actually make a lot of people feel better about S&W. Thanks for posting.

It is good to hear good news like this. Seem most of the problem childs are in the 1980-present section with the new and improved newer models IMO. I'll stick with the oldie but goodie models thank you.

I use them once for a model 57 that I shot out of time. They fixed me up and recut the forcing cone as it was in bad shape from over 20k rounds of the old full power Remington 210 gr. JSP round. Baby has never gone back in for anything and still shoots great!

Glad they hooked you up!

WOW, you lucked out! One of my shooting buddies just got a Performance Center Special Edition 686 and it came in to the FFL and upon opening the box discovered it was all scratched, dented and not anywhere worth near the $1500 bucks he paid for it. The Dealer boxed it up and returned it to the S&W P/C and they told him 4 to 6 weeks! I thought that was a lot of BRASS to be honest. My feeling is that S&W P/C should be embarrassed and get it done right away since there is no excuse for such a pricey gun to ever be shipped like that in the first place. If I owned S&W that is how I would have handled it............

Glad to hear about the fast turn around. I sent my 586 to them on Tuesday, Jan 17. Hope to get the same results.

Glad ya got it back. Now that they're done with your gun maybe they'll get around to sending my shipping label from a couple weeks ago....

Maybe they hired some CS guy from Taurus over the Holidays... :D

Fishslayer, did you get your shipping label? Mine took a week to arrive. Some gun companies actually use the internet and email a link to Fedex so you can print the label yourself, so no long wait.
Another question for whoever can answer: Does S&W let you know when they are shipping your gun back, or does it just show up?
Greg

My S&W 627 PC broke right after I got it and S&W fixed it and returned it back to me in a week. Stuff happens, but you have to love customer service like that. And let me add, the work/shipping at zero cost to me. Kudos to S&W

S&W emailed the shipping label to me. I printed it and taped it to the box. Took me a couple of phone calls to find a Fed-Ex store that would take it but found one about 8 miles from me.

Many of us are becoming familiar with the outstanding warranty service S&W is providing today....

Attitude on the part of all of us means a lot and an appreciation of really great service will continue to serve us all.

Kudos to S&W and the people willing to express their appreciation of S&W's outstanding customer service!!:):)

I sent a 686 back for cylinder lockup recently, it was a new gun. S&W sent Fedex by my house to pick it up and it was back to the door in 12 days. Great Service.

Well... thanks for the reminder. Think I'll call 'em again & see what happened to my shipping label.

And no... they didn't offer to email it and truth be known, the guy on the phone didn't really sound happy to be talking to me about my 686 no dash's issues.

You're welcome....

BTW, I didn't know the 20+ year old 686 no-dash guns were covered by warranty except for the recall. Learn something new here every day....:D

Fishslayer,
The customer rep I talked to to make arrangements for return told me that 10 people called that day about the same recall.
This was a couple of days after there was a thread on this forum about the 586 recall. Could it be.....

TDC,
I don't get the comment about warranty on a 20+year old gun, isn't this about a recall?:D

Greg

I talked with 2 different S&W Customer Service Reps this morning. They both were courteous and efficient in relaying information and answering my questions. One of these men told me their phone lines were continuously busy for 12 hours every day. He reminded me that they are taking calls not only about S&W but also about Walther and Thompson--so be patient when you have to wait a few minutes to get your call answered. These guys get a grade of A+ from me.

Actually, the OP's title for the thread is "Fast turnaround at S&W). The implication is that S&W's warranty service is the topic rather than just the 586/686 recall. I read the topic as meaning all warranty work other than the recall.

Fishslayer mentions "my 686 issues" which implies problems other than recall. If that was the case his 686 no-dash doesn't qualify for warranty work anymore and that may have been the reason he perceived S&W customer service as not willing to honor his requests. I've never known S&W to reject a recall request but I certainly have seen them reject a request for repairs far outside the warranty period, or guns that have been highly modified after leaving the factory...

My apologies to anyone who may have misinterpreted my post as I read the OP thread title as meaning all warranty work rather than simply the L frame recall.:)

Called S&W today, great news.

I called S&W today about my Model 586 that was sent in for FP Bushing recall. Shipped out today!!!!!
I talked to Michael and got his email address so I could email him for a tracking #.
I am looking forward to getting it back.
Just for the record, I sent it off Jan 17th, they received it Jan 19th. When I called Jan 27th I was told 3 to 4 weeks turnaround. So today is Feb 16th. True.

I see a lot of great comments about S&W customer service, I have to disagree. S&W has had my model 29-2 since Dec. 28 for a timing problem, and I'm still waiting for it.
