Well, thanks for checking up on us. All is well at the Faulkner homestead but it has been a rough round of weather. Wind, heavy rain, hail, tornadoes, then steady rain all moved through in a 48 hour period.
My rain gauge will measure 10 inches and it filled up the first day. I happened to be home when the tornadoes moved through. I stood on my front porch and watched a funnel cloud move right over my house at about 40 miles an hour, that was kinda spooky. The high winds knocked out power for a few hours but the line crews did a good job of making quick repairs. After the leading edge of the front moved through with all the hazardous weather it stalled and we received a long steady rain that caused a great deal of localized flooding and flash flooding.
I'm still nursing my busted ribs and working light duty so I went out to the county Office of Emergency Management and supervised our sand bag making operation. Last fall the county acquired a new sand bag machine that is pretty cool. It has three stations and with a motivated crew operating the thing it will churn out some sand bags in a hurry. I called one of our local district judge's and asked him if he had any folks who needed to work off some of their "community service" sentence since we could use the manpower at our sand bagging operation. He put the word out and we had around 20 folks show up and we put them to work. Empty sand bags come in bundles of a thousand and we went through five bundles. We had vehicles lined up to pick up sand bags and we distributed almost all of them.
Even though the front has moved on and we've had sunshine and warmer temps for several days now, many of the larger streams and rivers are just now cresting as the water runs down from the highlands to the lower elevations.
