I used Anderol because that was what they said S&W used at the factory. Now Birchwood Casey. Or Mobil 1.

The only synthetic I use is Mobil 1. Keeps bolts rolling and op rods operating.

I only use Machine Gunner's Lube from Sprinco.com. It works long after others have quit.

I like the Super Lube line of synthetic lubricants.
I use their med-vis oil w/teflon and their teflon based hi-temp grease.

Nothing but Militec-1 lube and conditioner for me. LOVE the stuff. When I was a Coast Guard Helo Rescue Swimmer we carried Bechmade autos in our vests. Mine was constantly exposed to salt water. After a flight you would rinse it thoroughly then apply a drop of Break Free to the pivot point and push button. Once every 3 months you tore the knife completely down, cleaned it and applied Break Free. We were all getting corrosion in the innards, until Militec-1 replaced the Break Free. After treating them as directed the corrosion dissapeared and the knives operated much smoother.
I performed my own unscientific test using the two lubes. The objects were the old US marked multi purpose knives. I treated one with Militec and one with BF. Tied off some fishing line to the knives and threw them into brackish water for 7 days. After pulling them both out the BF knife was rusted all to heck. The Militec-1 knife had a bit of corrosion at the swivel point rivet, but no where else. Made a firm beliver out of me and have been using nothing but since.
You have to treat it as directed for the best results but it's worth it.

Actually made good money doing that job and miss jumping out of em! Best 24 years of my life, especially our 7 years in Kodiak and Sitka, Alaska. Hope you all enjoy the pics. Helos, Harleys and firearms. Don't get much better than that!

Mobil 1 5-30w, because that's what I use in the Tundra, and there's always as bit extra in the bottles after an oil change. If its tough enough to withstand an internal combustion engine's abuse, a gun should be no problem.

Kroil - Good stuff, don't know if it's better than any other.
I know a guy who used to service photocopiers. He said the "secret" to a finely tuned copier was Marvel Mystery Oil, because of the high temperatures involved in the process.

I really like Militec-1 although I use it as lube and have never heated it. It is my lube of choice on guns that do not get grease (Rig +P Stainless Steel Grease) such as Glocks & M&Ps. I use grease on the rails of 3rd Gen guns, 1911s, SIGS, etc.
