What military vehicle gets your heart racing when you see it? Any time period, any country, air, land, or sea.

For me, the German Tiger I tank looks mean and had the firepower and armor to back it up.

A close second was the M50A1 Ontos with its six 106mm's. It just looked mean.

Third has to be the Sherman tank, especially in the heavier Firefly and Israeli SuperSherman variants with the longer barrel and turret counterweight.

US Navy P-3 Orion. Of course, having been a flight engineer on them for close to 13 years may have made me a little biased. :D

I like them all, but I have owned Deuces & 5-tons and they never stopped making me grin and wave at gawkers, when you are driving topless, with 40some bald kids in back all screaming and laughing...that's my onseason R&R, it's like taking a minivacation just watching them have the time of their lives for that moment. The M38A1 is fun too, but ready for a diesel repower.

All things considered, as I get older and it's tougher to jump into a deuce, the original Jeep looks better and better, especially with the .30 Browning mounted.

Who wishes he could afford a collection and a place to put it.

Probably the Mighty Mo??
If so, her sister, the New Jersey, provided fire support during the Viet Nam war.
You can hear 16" shells going over your head, headed for a target miles away! A salvo from those battle wagons is world changing.

Pretty sure that's the Iowa, BB-61, tho' it might be the New Jersey. The Mo' never had a helo pad.

I had no idea the Death Star would qualify. I helmed a FFG but I always wished I could have been on the latest DDG with all the fancy new electronics. Funny though how in training we could still slip by all the big boys and score hits on the carrier before the wrath was upon us. We always got stuck playing the bad guys. But it was good training and even more good fun.

"Honor, Courage, Tenacity"

In missions we were "Historian"

I miss her.

The Toyota pickups that those Alq....uh rebels are using in Libya.

You saw those, too? Ya think those come with a diesel engine?

You fly boys can have your birds. I'd like a M-715 or M-37. My FIL has several M-37s, or at least has enough parts to make several. I think I'd have to do a Cummins repower for a little more get-up-and-go and fuel economy. I've also long admired the Land Rovers the Brits use, but I'm scared of anything that says "Lucas" inside. ;)

I have some fond memories of the M561 Gamma Goat, but then I was a FA Surveyor, not a mechanic. We had a spare Goat in our survey section. On hot days we'd pull the drain plugs in back and ease the Goat into a handy pond to fill up the bed. Then we'd pull the Goat out of the water and let it set in the sun. Gave us a field expedient hot tub when we returned from a days work.
