Your first vehicles

Drivers ed car's were 1973? Buick Century's. Most of my road time was behind the wheel of my fathers stick shift Opel Manta. My future brother in law would take me out driving in his stick shift Opel GT. I took my drivers test at the DMV in the Manta. My first vehicle was a 1967 Pontiac LeMans.

I learned how to drive a stick in a 1988 Mercury Tracer hatchback.

The driving school I went to had Nissan Sentras - I'm guessing they're mid- 1980s models.

Even though I worked at a few new car dealerships, I've never bought a brand new car. The newest car I bought was a Black with grey mouse fur cloth interior 1991 Camaro RS Hardtop 5.0L 5 speed. Came in on trade low miles but had that nasty GM paint that would come off if you looked at it funny. It was stock but had 1989-90 IROC wheels. It had a tiny bit more horsepower than the 1983 Z/28 I had, but with the 5 speed, it was quicker and a lot of fun to drive.. I bought it in 1993. The only thing I did to it was change out the RS grill for the IROC/Z/28 center with the fog light cut outs and it had the look of a 1LE.
Oh and It had a louver over the hatch glass. IMO, it wasn't a bad looking car. It had a sad end - it was totaled in a head-on collision on I-40.

While not the same car here's one that's similar

Learned how to drive and took my road test in Parents 69 VW Bus. Standard transmission.

First car 1965 Opal Kadet 4 speed. $150. No starter had to park on hills and roll start it. Had it for a few months until I inherited Moms 62 VW Bug with canvas sunroof. I've got all you guys beat in the "Chick Magnet" department lol!

I learned on a 1961 Internattional Harvester tractor! I drove the family 73 Impala wagon 350 2 barrel, would do 84 mph and not a fph faster. Took my test in it too. Graduated in June 1974, in November 74 I bought a 1974 K-5 Blazer, 350 2 barrel that would do 84 MPH also. In 1978 new Edelbrock SP-2P intake, 4-barrel Carter 625 CFM carb, Hooker headers and exhaust. Creager rims and Mickey Thompson Baja Sportsman, Runk front bumper and a Warn 4-ton winch. The motor upgrades and tires were enough! Never got stuck after that except when my wife's cousin was my spotter, and directed me off the side of a log bridge and into a 50' wide mud pit. Using the winch, I was unstuck in 10 or 15 minutes. Those were the days!

Late 40's John Deere Model B was my first driving experience.
A lot of haying and manure spreading.
First car was a 1963 Ford Falcon Wagon.
Had the power house 170 Special with the 3 on the tree.

The first car I drove, at age 13, was my grandfathers '67 Rambler American. Dad let me drive it around the yard and down the local farm lanes by myself. No power steering or power brakes, but with a 199ci six with a 1 barrel carb there wasn't much power either.

Officially learning to drive at 16 started in Dad's '76 F100 because it was a stick shift, and Dad insisted I learn to drive a stick on the road first. When the truck bought the farm I moved on to my Dad's 1980 Pinto wagon and Mom's '85 LTD Crown Victoria. The majority of learning to drive was in the Vic, and I took my driving test in the Vic.

My first car was the same '85 Crown Vic. When I was in 12th grade my parents bought a 1986 Crown Vic, and gave me the choice of the '85 or the '86. I picked the '85, and drove it for another seven years. It was the first of many Vic's and Grand Marquis I've owned.

The first car I bought myself, when the trans went bad in the '85 Vic, was a used, low mileage, 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis. It was only five years old, it's still the newest car I've ever bought. I kept the Mercury for 13 years. Every daily driver I've had in my life was a Vic or a Grand Marquis. I just bought another Grand Marquis this June, one of the last of them made in 2010.

Learned to drive in my father's '63 Pontiac Tempest. The first car I bought was a six year old '65 Ford Galaxie when I was a senior in high school.

My dad worked at a Furniture & Hardware store and taught me to float gears I believe was 1971 Dodge D500 318 gas stake bed with a lift. I used to drive it around the block when parents were gone . Also learned to drive 1966 Chevy Impala Wagon Black with red interior had power glide trans can't remember if 307 or 327 . My first car 1979 was 71 Ford Torino 4 dr bought from elderly lady $550

I took drivers ed my sophomore year of HS in a Plymouth Fury III. The hood looked as big as a football field and stretched from ditch to ditch. We had a 1967 Pontiac Catalina when I got my license, it was what I built driving experience in and the first car I dated in (we won't go into how big the back seat was) :D. My own first car was a 1965 Mustang, 6-cyl and 3-speed. It was a huge hunkajunk, worked on it as much as I drove it. My Dad picked it out; I wanted the '57 Bel Air a guy at school wanted to sell so he could buy a new Chevelle. Dad wouldn't let me get it, probably afraid I'd kill myself in it. Looked great, well cared for, had a 283 with headers and 4-speed, Rally wheels and white letter tires. This was 1972 and he only wanted $700 for it. I sold the Mustang and ended up buying a new Opel Manta in 1973. Not fast but it was a good car.

I also had bought a 1972 Triumph Daytona motorcycle after I graduated from HS.

I had a 87 Z28. I did a little motor work on it. Sold it a few days before I moved to Florida. It had T Tops and they leaked a little, they were sealed shut when I bought it, but I couldn't live with that.

Our dad bought my brother and I a 1955 Chevy in 1964. 4 door, 265 V8. Don blew the engine going out to the lake with a bunch of his drunk buddies. It was supposed to be my night with the car and I had a date. Oh well.

The first car I bought was a '61 Comet. The next was a 1955 Cadillac hearse, complete with black leather and landau bar. Bought if from a hearse and ambulance collector in Ohio. It had been repainted a beige color and I called it The Fetal Pig, seen here with the boys in the band in 1967.

Much later in life, my 1969 Torino Cobra, 428 CJ, close ratio 10 bolt top loader 4 speed.

My dad frequently transported neighbor kids to and fro with school functions, Scout meetings and such in his barge like '65 Dodge Polara with the 383. Once off the main drags he would stop, get out and direct one of his passengers to take the wheel. Dad was 5'7" so a 13 - 14 wouldn't even have to adjust the seat for the chance to drive.

First car I owned was '72 Dart Swinger, stock 318.

Two of you mentioned the Opel Manta. When dad was stationed at Hurlburt Field one of his buddies was being transferred overseas and sold dad his Opel Kadett for cheap.

Dad brought it home and shoehorned mom and three kids in it for a ride.

After a half hour of "you're touching me!" from the back seat dad never again used it for ferrying the family.

Tell me he didn't name it Oliver.

Learned and drove.....

....a 1963 Ford Galaxie with a 222 'Mileage Maker' engine, no power anything, manual shift, no AC or radio, but it did have a cigarette lighter and ashtray. My favorite features were the bench front seat and the vent windows.6

The first vehical I bought was a 1974 AMC Hornet, 232 6 cyl, straight shift and again no accoutrements. But I drove it forever. For a ****** car, it was really durable.
